casing rh different..
    #1341858 - 02/28/03 03:45 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

from what i have gathered here i thought that casing requiered less humidity then cakes? I remember asking once and i was told that i needed different terrarium for both.

BUT

i then read this on the FAQ:

Ideally, the casing should be kept at 95 -100% RH at this phase, and temps maintained at around 70-75 degrees.

so with all this in mind i should be able to put them in there with my cakes. RIGHT?

i would have to say that that is a misprint. correct me if i'm wrong, correct the FAQ if I'm right. i willl say these 2 things. A casing WILL fruit in a 95-100% rH environment, basically you just don't have to mist as often but you will get "hairy" fruits since mycelium will grow all over them. Also, given a large enough terrarium you can have casings on shelves in an 85% rH environment and cakes in a tub with perlite on another shelf keeping them at 100% rH.

There is no misprint. You are confusing primordia formation with cropping. Perhaps this will clarify things.

the FAQ IS confusing. it does not differentiate the stages here. where, in this FAQ, does it mention dropping the rH for cropping? it confused me and I KNOW what I'm doing. it states that there are two stages and names one as pre-pinning/colonization. it calles the next primordia formation. so, it just stops there? no information (critical IMHO) concerning what to do with rH once fruits are growing? IMO, when the knots become pins and the pins start to grow upwards (not opening caps, just elongating) THAT is when you drop rH. and THAT is NOT the cropping time. IMO, cropping is when the veils are breaking and you are picking the fuckers off the surface. IME rH should have already been dropped when your doing that. care to correct me?

From the glossary of The Mushroom Cultivator, page 390:

cropping The time of mushroom formation, development and harvesting.

thank you, may i have another, sir
so this defines the difference between cropping and harvesting. that would have been my bad for the misinterpretation.
