Has anyone read The Stranger by Camus? when i first started reading it, i htought that it was so boring and awful, until i finished and looked back on it. It is an existentialist masterpiece. If anyone has read it, what are your thoughts? Do you agree with the premise of Existentialism?

The STranger is an intriguing book if for no other reason than that it doesn't have a main character. Sure there's a person named Mersault that stuff happens to and who reacts to the environment, but there's nothing inside the man. I think he admits as much. I think one of the big literary questions is why did he fire the revolver 5 times when there are 6 bullets in the chamber? Lots of theories on that one. Such a good book.

I felt the same way. I thought it was completely boring and pointless until I finished. Now I'm so intrigued by it I'm dreaming about it. Really showed me a thing or two about society and it's accepted norms. An interesting book to meditate on.
