Do you really feel that $100 billion could not be better spent than in eliminating one man who will be replaced by another?

Fallacy of the excluded middle is sometimes called the "false dichotomy".
It asks the respondent to choose between two alternatives ignoring that there are other possibilities.

How is replacing Hussein and "something else" only two possibilities. Choice two includes all possibilities.

The inference is that the new man would be equal to the last one.
That discounts other possibilities such as American occupation for one or that the new man could be better.
Think in broader terms.

Do you really think that this will cost ONLY 100 Billion? Theirs already 26 Billion going to Turkey before they began asking for more (9 billion cash and 17 billion in other promises)
Then theirs all the others in the world that weve paid off for their support. I dont even want to think of how much were paying Saudi Arabia for full use of their air base after they initially said no.
Then theirs the extra pay for the reservists, the medical cost, the Intel cost of "information gathering", clean up cost and the cost of putting out the oil fires Sadam is guaranteed to start again.
On top of it will be the cost of replacing the bombs we drop and planes and vehicle that get destroyed.
By the time this is all over Ill guess that the grand total will be well over 300 billion.

Even though it may have the fallacy of the excluded middle, I think it's still a valid question.
If 100 billion of public money is to be spent, would it be best spent on 'regime change in Iraq, or on something (anything) else? Or not spent at all?
I guess you passed your Logic course in university.
Didn't the monks of the catholic church during the dark ages also understand these Logical equations? How enlightened do they seem now? (analyze that)
The guy posed a question. If you don't like it, (Mr. Be Nice policy), click on...don't come out with some dismisive thing like... NEXT!
I think a logical mistake such as this is equivalent to a spelling mistake or grammar mistake, yipee skippee.
You still know what he means.

That's just great.
Who benefits? Who? I'm sure we already know. And they are trying to scare everybody with their phony terror alerts! HA!
It makes for a compelling case. Like a Bob Dylan song.

Don't get your knickers in a twist Nellie. You take this FAR too personally.
When a person makes a glaring error in logic when trying to convince someone of something I will point it out. I always do and I always will. What you took for "dismissive" was an inside joke between Swami and myself. We are friends, close friends.
Personally I do not think the US should go to war but that has nothing to do with his error of logic.
If you wouldn't use reason to decide upon your viewpoint, what would you use?
Feelings?

what's the REAL reason? It's our money, not the world's (no matter how much others may disagree).
I'm curious. Our foreign policy i can see, sorta, but it's a domestic matter and noone's business but the Taxpayers of the United States.

I look at it this way Inn. The more we spend, the more we are involved. The more we are involved, the more the repercussions could be. If it is nuclear they are right next door.
They have good reasons to be concerned about how we handle this situation.
Make sense?

That's recockulous!
Nah, just kidding.
You do bring up a valid point, albeit somewhat obscurely.
What you are asking about is a person's motivation. That could be many things. It could be a Canadian that is jealous of America or any number of things.
One of those things, as I pointed out, could be that they are leery of a country they perceive and an administration that they perceive that is pushing an issue that will have nuclear armament deployed against them for the war they are waging.
If that happens nuclear fallout will drift to Canada. That is a valid concern for any Canadian in my view.
They, as a country, have a right to be concerned about what we, as a country are doing. Hey, if they were fuxxing around with Red China I'd be very concerned about how much money they were spending to piss off the Red Chinese. Oh, I forgot, we don't call them that anymore.
Cheers,
|
