Zach Galifianakis Lights Up A Joint On
Late-Night TV
October 30, 2010 - contactmusic.com
Funnyman ZACH GALIFIANAKIS stunned American TV viewers on Friday night
(29Oct10) when he lit up a joint and started smoking it during a
political chat show.
The Hangover star was making a point about the upcoming vote for
marijuana legalisation on Real Time With Bill Maher when he took the
roll-up and a lighter out of his blazer pocket.
He said, "It's a tricky thing politically to jump on that bandwagon
(and vote for the legalisation of pot) because I think that maybe
people still see it as taboo."
Galifianakis then started puffing away and offered the joint to fellow
guest Margaret Hoover, a conservative news reporter, who smelled the
cigarette and verified it was the real thing.
The funnyman continued smoking as the political debate on the show
continued, and then raised a laugh by screaming, "Oh my God, look at
those dragons!", poking fun at the stereotype of stoners.
The dragon thing was perfect because that is exactly what people are led to believe. But that really is not the case in almost all situations. Pot is something that for many people relaxed them without the burden that alcohol causes physically (or mentally, i don't care what studies are out, experience and people i know prove that pot isn't that bad. yes there are cases of burnouts, but i know too many people who live good lives, jobs, kids, and smoke, to believe that bullshit)

As long as some a-hole doesn't try to prosecute him based on the tape. I guess they would actually have to PROVE that is what it was, which would be hard with just the tape.
At least I hope so....

Wasn't Bill hitting a joint in Amsterdam in that movie "Religulous"? I mean he was totally making fun of the stoner guy, but sitting there with a big 'ol hooter in his hand? I think Bill is on the bus, just not in that scene on TV
(They should have though)

Bill definitely supports the cause, but he could do more. On the show someone asked him if he had donated any money to Prop 19, and he said he had not.

Plus, in most cases where someone burns out, they were either using more than just pot, or they were predisposed to "burning out" anyway. Had a bad childhood, came from a broken home, parents were drug addicts or alcoholics, or just lacked ambition to begin with.
All the "burnout" pot smokers I know either burned out from hard drug abuse, or came from broken homes, had bad childhoods, etc.
I don't know anyone who grew up in a healthy, stable situation, and had their life ruined by pot (unless we're talking about a legal situation which ruined their lives, but that's the law, not pot itself).
Also, I thought the "Look at the Dragons!" thing was awesome too, because that really is what a lot of people unfamiliar with marijuana think about it. They think its some crazy mind bending drug, when it's really not.

-------------------- Well, if that's the case, then Julian, he is like a superhero. Holy fuck, Ricky, you know who you are? You're Dope-Man! He can smoke a pound in a single bound.
This is exactly what we need. The more people see casual use on TV, like that news report "Oh they're smoking weed.", the more people will come to accept it as okay.
The statement he made was very bold. It was very funny as well. Looks like a future trend to me. Physiologically, cannabis use is not harmful. It is finally time mainstream society caught up. Go Zach!
