North Korea sends meth users to firing squad, marijuana and opium still OK

Drug Users Face Firing Squad
October 27, 2010 - nkradio.org

- The People’s Safety Agency issue a declaration entitled “The Crackdown on Drug Use”
- A reflection of the growing number of drug users, including juveniles
- The crackdown is focused only on meth, not opium or marijuana

According to a source in Hamkyungbuk-do, a declaration entitled “The Crackdown on Drug Use” was issued in Hoeryung (Hamkyungbuk-do) by the People’s Safety Agency. The declaration was posted on the window of a busy store and states that ‘any drug users will face a firing squad should they be caught. The declaration has been issued throughout the nation, the source said.

It is the first time that the North Korean government has announced a crackdown on drug users, although the sentencing of drug producers and traders has occurred before. The declaration reflects that the number of drug users has dramatically increased.

According to the source, “meth is mostly produced in Hamheung, Hamkyungnam-do. Recently, even middle school students are openly using meth, which is called ‘ice’ or ‘빙두’ among North Koreans.”

The source commented on the cause of the increasing number of drug users: “this is because North Koreans have lost hope and are depressed by the reality that they are living. They would rather be happy under the influence of drugs.”

“The government will crack down on the use of meth in North Korea. They do not consider opium and marijuana to be drugs,” the source added.

The North Korean government has never controlled the use of opium or marijuana. Rather, they encouraged opium farms on abandoned land in order to earn foreign currency. Marijuana is cultivated along railroad tracks across the nation because it holds the railroads tight, with its deep roots, and contains oils that can be used for industrial purpose. Many gardeners grow opium in their own gardens to be used as a treatment for colitis or diarrhea.

well that seems alright, you get to smoke opium and weed all day, and there will be no tweakers stealing yo' shit.

but that marijuana down the train lines must not be potent at all.

meth isn't so bad... people waste themselves on more usually.

this is kinda sad.... i mean, they pretty much take out a whole bunch of festering people who are scared to death.

then they blow their brains out.

i couldn't condone this.

Well, let's see here - instead of having people possibly hurting themselves or dying from years of meth abuse, they'll simply speed it up and shoot them. Sounds kind of backwards to me. No one should be shot for what they choose to ingest.

Heavy man.

I am not saying it's cool but most folks don't know that their meth problem is like 10x our heroin thing. It is hard to imagine, but whole villages are meth ghettos over there.

The part about folks giving up hope and so choosing meth is very true. They got it bad.

North Koreans don't see anything wrong with what their government does. Haven't you guys seen the Nat Geo Insider: North Korea?

They almost don't even have words that can make sentences about Kim being wrong or bad or anything negative.

Meth isn't so bad? are you kidding me? Do you do meth too or what man? Meth is like the symbol of everything bad in the world next to AIDs in Africa.

Enough with the ellipses, you seriously put at least 2 or more in EVERY post you make.

Of course "there is such a thing as responsible drug use" but I'm pretty sure most people would agree that meth typically is NOT used responsibly. Correct me if I'm wrong but meth is said to be highly addictive, right? I personally wouldn't consider using a drug KNOWN to be highly addictive in the least bit responsible.

Really my point is it's not America. In America I think any sort of drug prohibition is wrong.
Whereas;
North Koreans can do to North Koreans as they see fit. Get off the world police bandwagon.

if i could world police i would. firing line for meth users.... a little overkill.

ive heard of heroin users living into their 80's+ using the drug responsibly, i dont see why it couldnt be the same for meth users. hell people take adderall on a daily basis

first off... i'll post how i like... i like riddles so... whatever...

secondly... no flaming...
(honestly, i'll presume that asking if i did meth was a call to flames considering it's obvious you'd think that i'd be a fuckhead if i DID do meth but if you weren't flaming, hey it was a disclaimer, man.)

thirdly... meth isn't that bad and no i am not using meth.

and my forth point is... who is the police here? you say that it's typical that someone will get addicted and thus use meth irresponsibly. wrong. any substance can be addictive and thus be abused. look at sex... and food.

i don't think anyone is being the police here except you. you're toting a badge of wellbeing and protection, saying meth users are irresponsible and abusive by nature whilst a bunch of them are shot in korea... but because it's a native country, your upstanding morals hold no merit and that even if you were wrong on your stance on the meth and meth users that it's the assumed correct position of the their nation and government.

sounds like a :cop: to me

but who cares? this is speculation, man.

Yes, meth can be and is destructive when abused, we all agree with you.  So is food, sex, gambling, and a whole gamut of other activities that humans engage in on a daily basis.  If you want to get upset about how destructive methamphetamine is, I suggest you start lobbying to have Desoxyn pulled from the shelves of pharmacies all across the country.

 I love how so many people seem to be like "Wow, in North Korea you can smoke crappy weed from the railroad tracks! Let's all go!". Folks, I got news for you - you won't be getting any feminized genetics and hydroponics equipment there.
But there is one thing that would be the ultimate trophy - an actual print of a wild North Korean Psilocybe. Can you imagine how cool that would be to have the Pyongyang strain of an active mushroom? Haha!
