Drug ring defendant enters plea

A rural Eugene woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to eight felonies for conspiring to manufacture marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and ecstasy, to distribute the drugs in other states, and to launder nearly $606,000 in cash proceeds.

Suzan Dione, 40, also agreed to forfeit to the government two local houses used in the operation. One is a residence she shares with co-defendant Fernando Marcele Bispo de Jesus at 86151 Cherokee Drive near Gimpl Hill. The other is a home she owns at 2143 Dakota St. in west Eugene. Related charges against Bispo de Jesus and another Eugene man, Noel Nathaniel Yaun, are still pending.

Authorities got wind of the drug operation when participant Michael James Walsh made large cash deposits at a Eugene bank while reeking of fertilizer from the illegal grow, causing a teller to vomit.

Walsh was sentenced in July to nearly four months in prison after pleading guilty to money laundering. Mick Peter Strader Miller, also of Eugene, was sentenced last year to three years of probation for manufacturing marijuana.

Dione, also known as Susan Dianne Gillett, faces a possible 20-year prison term at her Jan. 4 sentencing. But under her plea deal with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she is likely to receive a sentence of two to four years because she pleaded guilty, has no previous convictions and was not an organizer of the ring.
