Blewits, Shaggy Manes
    #13385377 - 10/25/10 02:26 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Took my morning walk despite the rain!  Came home with things to eat! yay!
I saw easily fifty Shaggy Manes (Coprinus comatus) out and about today, some in large clusters of ten with tons of pins too.

Some Blewits! (Clitocybe nuda) These were true to all the readings, purple cap, gills, and stems in the young and turning brown in maturity with a wavy margin and the smell of frozen OJ.

Agaricus campestris I brought home about twenty buttons and a few larger ones!

OK, the following I don't plan to eat!
Mr. Big Stuff (who do you think you are...) Gomphidius sp.

Mr. Snottypants (and his associates)

Ms. Licorice Lips (smelled strongly of licorice or I suppose anise)

Boletus chrysenteron?

Ms. Lavender Lacy Pants (I know it's corny but I'm already committed)

These were growing in a massive mulch pile, pine and yard clippings and garden waste.

Tonight's pot of yummy goodness

I have to admit, I'm nervous to cook the Blewits because of the info on it hurting the stomach and not really having much substance to it.  Anyone have any feedback on that?
Happy day all!

Penultimate ones are Clitocybes.

So everything I read on this says choice edible...there were quite a few of these so if anybody takes them home on purpose to eat, I would happily go back and get them on your word!!

oh ok - down in Southern Oregon? Sweet! I love it down there, didn't realize it was a mushroom hotspot.
