New Proposition 19 ad declares 'war on
marijuana has failed'
October 25, 2010 - fresnobee.com
With the polls shifting against legalizing marijuana for recreational
use, the Yes on Proposition 19 campaign is going to the airwaves with
its first television commercial.
A spot featuring former San Jose Police Chief Joseph McNamara begins
running in the Los Angeles television market today. He declares that
"the war on marijuana has failed" and it is time to legalize pot "to
allow police to focus on violent crimes, and put drug cartels out of
business."
Proposition 19 strategist Dan Newman said the campaign picked the L.A.
market for its initial commercial run "because it's the biggest market
with the most swing voters and the largest proportion of election day
voters." He said the Yes on 19 effort plans to "ramp up" ad airings in
other markets soon.
The commercial comes as a recent Los Angeles Times/University of
Southern California poll shows Prop 19 losing among likely California
voters by 51 to 39 percent. A recent poll by the Public Policy
Institute of California had Proposition 19 trailing by 49 to 44 percent
after the same poll had the initiative leading 52-41 percent in late
September.
Here's is the text of the ad featuring McNamara, followed by the video
below.
"Let's be honest: The war against marijuana has failed. I know from 35
years in law enforcement. Today, it's easier for a teenager to buy pot
than beer. Proposition 19 will tax and control marijuana just like
alcohol. It will generate billions of dollars for local communities,
allow police to focus on violent crimes, and put drug cartels out of
business. Join me and many others in law enforcement. Vote YES on
Proposition 19!"
hell yes the war on drugs has failed! you dont need to look any further than the liqure store...
on a funny note i was talking to my friends fundamentalist christian mom about legalization today and she believes, not only that obama is the ant-christ of sorts, but she believe that the legalization of marijuana is going to be the 7 years of peace before the apocalypse...she said that everyone is going to be so stoned they are not going to work or anything and that society will fall and war will break out....its funny to me

bet she has never even smoked a single puff before and those are the things her preacher said last sun. what a joke! be sure to let her know...its peace in isreal. followed by seven years of tribulation... not seven years of peace. she should be more scared of americas constant "peace keeping" missions in the middle east then legal MJ...

lol i asked her "if everyone is too stoned to go to work how will they fight a war" and that is where she turned the conversation into an argument i just left it alone...she is a bible basher...anyway this is off topic my bad

This ad does not appeal to your average voter, it uses logic and common sense rather than creating fear. For this reason, I don't think prop 19 will pass. The common voter is just too naive to easily tricked. It's too bad though, prop19 really could've changed the world...
I'm not sure where all this negativity regarding Prop 19's passage has come from all of a sudden. I still feel it's going to pass. Even if it doesn't, chances are the next bill that gets put on the ballot will pass. As the days march on, more and more of the older population dies off, and with them goes their "no" votes on issues like this.

If society is to stoned to work, I doubt they'll be motivated to fight lol.
Oops didn't see you said that in a later post, haha funny shit.

its come from the conservative newspapers in california, who almost all published weak articles denouncing the passage of p19 and subsequent polls showing a drop in support. Its complete bullshit. I agree with you and I have a feeling it will pass also.
why does this ad leave out the important reasons why marijuana should be legal? yes it will help the state earn money while cutting some profit for drug cartels, but they're missing the most important facts
why not mention the fact that marijuana kills no one, when ingested orally or vaporized it has very little to no adverse health effects. why not talk about how rather than killing your brain cells it helps to protect them?
the reason why many people don't want marijuana legal is because they still believe the bullshit propoganda they've heard. if everyone knew the truth about these drugs and their effects there's no way that such drug laws could be enforced.

I love how it's always the "former" officials who are for this sorta stuff...no one wants to risk saying theyre for it while they are actually in office.
