    #1338500 - 02/26/03 06:37 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Alright, i have a simple question that im dying to know because i just am. Does cubensis grow in california? Ive checked guides and such that claim they dont buut some people on the shroomery in another forum are saying they dont. So i need to know so i can either 1. apologize for my misinformation or 2. know that i have proven them wrong.

Psychoslut, I could not find this info in the hunting FAQs. Would you mind linking to it. It has been my impression that they don't grow wildly in Cali. I have heard many rumors of an acclimated (sp?) cubensis which grows in the PNW area which would probably grow in Cali also but to my knowledge this hasn't been proven yet. I know a few people who have claimed to pick them up here and one from these boards who swears he picks wild cubes every summer on Vancouver Island (West of mainland British Columbia, CA)
Just my two cents.
Later - @cro

First off, you can do a search here in the mushroom hunting forum and probably find what you are looking for!

I lived in Southern California for 20 years, and I never, ever, ever, found a cubensis. Reasons being that Southern California is not humid enough, and usually not warm enough.

People do say that they have found them in California, I do realize that it is probably possible, but you will have to be very lucky in the early summer to find them.

California does have wild hallucinogenic mushrooms. Such as Panaeolus subbalteatus...which is quite common in many climates. It is a pretty weak mushroom, however when injested in larger quanities, can definetly give you a head rush. You can find these in horse manure during the fall and early winter, and possibly through the spring if your really lucky.

If you live North of SF, or in SF, you are in the area for Ps. cyanescens, Ps. stunzii, Ps. semilanceata (Liberty Cap), and also Panaeolus subbalteatus. Just do a search and find more info on them if you are that far North...

Hope that helps
