Sometimes it takes a little longer than expected....a week is the expected, after 2 weeks you probably could say the spores were not viable, the substrate may have been hot or something else was screwed up....just be patient, it may be in the proscess and just isnt visible yet.....

As for the Vermiculite....oddly enough it is actualy used for a fire resistant insulation.....it's just a little more coarse

are you using an incubator?

what recipe did you use to make your cakes?

how much spore solution did you use per jar?

what size jars did you use?

Do you know what the temperature is around the jars?
You might have dried out the jars using a heater.
Depends on how hot it is.

Which strain?
Did you make your spore syringes or did you buy them?

If I was you...I'd wait another week to see if you get any kind of growth.
If you don't get any growth then...let Sporeworks know and they will replace it.

Yup ^^^ What Road said ^^^ If I were you, I'd also buy a cheap thermometer. You can also build a cheap and effective incubator: http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator

EDIT: Fixed link.

what if he put the jars in a tub with perlite and water in the bottom and put it in the box with the heater blowing on it or is it better next to a fridge?

Yup, seen it happen. Vermiculite is getting hard to find. A dude I know had it happen. posted the whole story in response to an earlier post i read about 3o jars having the same problem. The abridged version goes like this:

He used vermiculite of the larger variety. At first, because the PF Tek plainly says that you should avoid the vermiclite of the larger variety, he ground his vermiculite for 2 jars, then got lazy and stopped. The 2 jars of ground vermiculite worked fine. The other 10 all grew a stinky (sorta crusty-looking) mold. He re-did the tek grinding the vermiculite for all jars this time and had no problem. Then again, it could be lots of stuff, I gues. I'm certainly not an expert. I just know a dude who told me this.
