what do you believe will happen when you die?
    #1338378 - 02/26/03 03:49 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

those few seconds alive.. then... pop! you die... then what?
i really dont think you'll go to heaven or hell.. must be something more, or could be something less.
i've though in many craps like
we could go to another world, since there's infinite worlds and heaven&hell are just 2 random worlds... maybe our world is between heaven&hell, we could have been already in hell OR in heaven and the next one is hell OR heaven..

we also could meet everyone that existed before in a second, we could get all together as 'the one'.

we could be an alien experiment, or a human experiment and when you die it will be just: GAME OVER muhahahaha

the trick is to keep going, who knows maybe we will join aliens, or move on to inivisible light bodies or be transformed to a new realm. who knows maybe you see the end and right before you cross over you make the leap and vouahla you have made the next step in the eternal cycle. im in the same boat as you my friend " want a cig?"

Ever think to yourself, while under the influence of a hefty dose of psychedelic, "what could possibly be beyond this (trip experience)? What's the Next Step?"

I think that's what it will be like.

We can join the collective contiousness (one with God and the universe)- or we can rome the universe as a seperate entity with an ego. I'd prefer exploring the megaverse and all it's dimentions before I join God in blissful oneness.

As of late I've been leaning toward the latter... err not the experiment part rather the Game Over... in the sense that your awareness will cease to exist. Upon death the energy of one's form is recasted to provide nutrients (experience) for the universe. Whether or not you give the rest of creation diarrhea is up to you.
Perhaps in a 100 years some kid will catch fragments of your existance in their trips and think they were you in a past life rather than seeing that they are an accumulation of all experiences of all.

Or poof... end game... nothing, which is just as well. However, from things I've experienced sober I don't think we end in nothingness.

I believe in cellular memory especially if that psychology study where a control group A of worms were fed the varible group B worms who had been manipulated to cringe when exposed to light... when group A was exposed to light after dining on their relatives they too cringed. Dunno, read about it in my college psyche text though. Often made me wonder about canniblism and/or our methods of raising the food we consume. If there is any validity to it we're prolly better off eating earthworms and crickets than feeding our cow/chicken mentality.

That's pretty good. I like the idea of giving the rest of creation "diarrhea" if you don't live a proper life. This is the way I see it. I don't remember anything from before I was born, and I don't plan on knowing anything after I die. The concept of "I" will be gone, so it won't matter to "me" anyways. My body will return to the Earth and my spirit energy will rejoin with the cosmos. What happens to our energy after we die is up to us, even though who we think we are won't be there to enjoy the results.

I feel that whatever you want to happen to yourself when you die is going to be PRECISELY what happens to you when you die.

Either that, or somehow just "nothing."

we may just continue life in another parallel universe still as us in a different time period of life. but have no previous knowledge of the death experience and feel 'normal'.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

I think our spirits will just go and try something else. Being human is just an experience that our spirits are currently partaking in! Who knows, maybe after I die I may become a martian bacteria, or a solitary oak tree in a field somewhere.

I can't bear the thought that death is the end, I would love to know as I'm sure everyone would. I mean, if I knew death was the end, I would live my life differently.

We will be judged basied on our life on earth. Did we reject our creator and go against Him or did we be as faithful as we could and tried to follow Him. Did our name make it into the Book Of Life? If so we will be allowed into the Gates of Heaven if not we will be damned to hell. Our bodys will return to the ground until they are rejoined with our spirts. Might seem impossible but anything is possible with God.

Sucker: Well my daughter's name was Cathy.

I think it may have been Tim Leary who talked about the power of the human mind.  You know when your really tripping out and time seems to almost stand still.  Well you get 12 sec of brain activity after your body dies, maybe that 12 secs will last forever.  Maybe I'm already dead and I'm just living in that last 12 sec of brain activity.  Maybe my life is just the memory of my life.  I also like the "Waking Life" idea of dream after death.  Nice.  I have read somewhere that there is some evidence to support the idea that consiousness can exist outside of the body when there is no brain activity.  This is getting long winded now but I'd say that whatever happens after we die it will be all good!  I certainly don't think there is anything for anyone to be worried about or scared of.

"Why not?"
-Tim Leary, last words.

My personal belief is that while you are alive you have an opportunity to experience something called "faith". This thing called faith can empower you to become a creator in the post-human experience.

I believe that when God created the vastness of the physical world it required faith to do so. Take the biblical example of creation for instance. "God said let there be light" , and then there was light. God had to believe that the words spoken would be fulfilled in order to create light. It required absolute faith. This is just an example of how it might work.

Humans have the opportunity to experience this kind of faith in an existence where we are isolated from the absolute certainty of a God. If there is a purpose to this existence I believe it is to provide us with an opportunity to become creators on a level with God.

To have faith is to find a creative purpose in this life. One that is not destructive in anyway. Those who walk around with no purpose are, for the most part, destructive and have no faith.

Purpose is not given to us, we must find it through faith. To find a purpose you must first believe that there is one.

I am still searching and have alot of realizing to do.

buddha's answer to queries about "what happens after death" was:

a noble silence...
~
~
~
brings to mind a master & disciple little dialog:
zen student: master what happens to us after death?
zen master: i do not know.
student: but, you're a zen master!
master: yes, but not a dead one!
~
~
so...
what happened to valentine michael smith (THE MAN FROM MARS!!!) after he was lynched by an angry mob of his enemies, and made into a kettle of soup by his friends ???
well: he comforted his grieving adopted father figure (jubal harshaw) & then reported for duty in the human portion of heaven, where he pushed back his halo so he could get back to work  ...
(or for a more ummmm nostalgic story by heinlein, try his short: "the man who traveled in elephants" --- it's worth the search & not a dry eye in the house...)
~
~
or how about rumi's poem about changing each time "death" occurs:
a crystal, a plant, an animal, a man --- "whan have i lost by dying?"
~
~
brings to mind the old sufi saying:
the man who dies before he dies, when he dies, he does not die
(i'm sure it is more impressive-sounding in persian  ...)
~
~
or even long john silver:
them as what dies is the lucky ones
...well... ok...
~
~
or frank zappa (pbuh) quoting his favorite classical maestro, edgar varese:
the present day composer refuses to die
~
~
one must suppose that there is nothing to lose and perhaps much to gain by being as aware as possible when the moment of transition occurs --- brings to mind aldous huxley asking his wife laura to inject 2 ampoules of 100 gamma each lsd as he lay dying 22 nov 1963...
attention
here and now boys

heaven...
brings to mind a story (heard on NPR) told by a woman raised in austria... the priest told an assembly at the school (ok, gymnasium = high school):
girls, heaven is like this assembly hall, here at your school... the good catholics have the good seats down front; the rest of the catholics fill up the rest of the seats in the hall; and in the back, the good lutherans fill up the SRO...
 luv it, standing room only for the good lutherans... hehheh, tell the pastor that one for a chuckle...

You die and that's it. You become nature.

I believe we are a part of all things. Whether or not all is defined by this planet, or multiple dimensions infinately expanding. Living, and being recreated into everything. I dunno but i believe the purpose in life is to simply live, and the world could be a much better place where everyone everywhere could be happy without worries. ;;;;;;;[[[[[[[[[

Well, not all worries would be eliminated. There would still be illness(although alot less), death(not really your own, but the death of those you love), Resources(not that much if everybody shared), Well, some other things as well.

But I see your point.

As much as this question is burned in my mind I just don't know if it
is possible for us to know for sure... for anyone living.
Maybe we just have to experience it ourselves when we die. You can't just
believe what you are told to by religion. How can you even accurately
use any spoken language to explain what happens in death. Is it possible that God is no more than a placebo to ease our fear of death?

how bout this
"We are all one conciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, we are only the imagination of ourselves. It's only illusion that we are seperate beings, in actuality we are all one. God is love and love is all there is"-bill hicks
not neccesarily what i believe but i thought i would add it to the mx
dont really know what i believe anymore. I do like alot of the ideas posted though.

While under the infulence of some REAL REAL REAL dank bud (dankest I have seen in months) I decided that there are millions, perhaps an infinate amount of dementions, but God, who created all these dementions lives outside of them, in this place there is no height, depth, width, time, space, or anything, it is nothingness but then at the same time it is everything. It exsist along side this world, but sepreate from it. When one dies, they go to this place, and become one with it. They are given infiniate knowledge and power, but no place to use it. your consioussness will disolve here, and be part of everyone elses. In a way you become one with god, but not really, you are more of an addition to God, like when you hole a pen in this world, It is apart of you, but sepreate at the same time. Its a little diffrent then that, but thats a good way of putting it. I havent experinced an "ego-death" as of yet, but I think it may just be that constantly.

Anyway, I dont know if I really beleive this, it was just something I was thinking about while laying down, stoned, trying to sleep but not there yet.

i really dont think you'll go to heaven or hell.. must be something more, or could be something less.
i've though in many craps like
we could go to another world, since there's infinite worlds and heaven&hell are just 2 random worlds... maybe our world is between heaven&hell, we could have been already in hell OR in heaven and the next one is hell OR heaven..

we also could meet everyone that existed before in a second, we could get all together as 'the one'.

we could be an alien experiment, or a human experiment and when you die it will be just: GAME OVER muhahahaha

:bump: <-- How telling that emoticon is?

I wish I had a :bump2: that told people this was age old..
..but, I just did!
