this is the reading on a digital VS. analog one..

cheap one..

peeps this is very importanth as the rh plays a big role in the pin formation..

hope this helps other newbies like myself.. if you dont have 2 to test against each other try to test yours by doing this simple calibration tek.

So what conclusions do you draw from this test? Which is more accurate?

another observation..

don't leave needle type hygroms in your terrarium, they will read 100 % all the time. they get condensation on the metal inerds and all real off wack.

put them in there, give them 10 minutes, take the reading and remove them.

ANNO= it seems that the digital one is more aqurate than the needle ones. Of course they are more expensive. i guess you really do get what you pay for.

C.G.= thanks man i was not aware of this. I have removed and will put in there just to check everydayhwere i am at..

has anyone left there digital one in there without it breakin due to the high context of humidity?

>ANNO= it seems that the digital one is more aqurate than the needle ones.

What would you make conclude that?
Only becuase it?s digital and more expensive?
This is no criterium.

well i did do the calibraton tek with the salt and got 74% so thats why i am going with the this as the more aqurate one..

I'm confused by your statement.

Did you do the salt tek with the analogue hygrometer and then calibrate it with the calibration screw to show 75% RH ?

i did the salt tek with the digital hygrometer. it read 74% in stead of 75 so its off by 1%

now when i placed both meters in the fruiting chamber one gave me 90 - other 95 so i now know that my needle one is off by 5%..

Peace!

Error in systems like this are rarely linear.

you still cant be sure which is giving the more accurate reading. i would actually tend to go with the analogue one. they nearly all go funny at high RH

for what it is worth I have an analog hygro. came from http://www.brooklynthermometer.com . it SEEMS to be truly accurate, i have no way to verify it's accuracy. it definitely doesn't stay stuck at 100%. in fact, it happily bounces around from 90-100% depending on air movement and such. like i said it SEEMS very accurate. it wasn't cheap but it is supposed to be accurate up to 95% and is NIST traceable.
