    #13364788 - 10/21/10 12:14 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

29 Arrested in Major Drug Bust
October 20, 2010 - KKTV

Authorities say they've been using Colorado Springs as a base operation. The leader of the drug ring has been identified as Carlos Ramon Castro-Rocha, an alleged heroin trafficker in Mexico.

A major Mexican drug trafficking organization has been dismantled. Twenty-nine people are now behind bars on felony drug charges.

Authorities say they've been using Colorado Springs as a base operation. The leader of the drug ring has been identified as Carlos Ramon Castro-Rocha, an alleged heroin trafficker in Mexico.

"We had developed a bunch of intelligence saying that he was responsible for the direct importation of pounds of heroin into Colorado Springs and the Denver area," said Kevin Merrill, DEA Acting Special Agent in Charge; Rocky Mountain Field Division.

The investigation was part of a 22-month multi-agency investigation known as "Project Deliverance," which was publicly announced back in June.

Since then, more than 13 pounds of cocaine, 30 pounds of methamphetamine, 3.75 pounds of heroin and more than $1.4 million in cash and assets has been seized.

"We are going after the top ranking drug traffickers in the country and bringing them to justice in the United States," said Merril.

The following four fugitives are still wanted in connection with this major drug bust:

Sixto Erix Felix-Valdez, 31, is a resident of Colorado Springs, but authorities believe he is now in Mexico.

Ramon Cejudo, 52, is a resident of Colorado Springs.

Marcos Vela-Gallegos, 35, is a resident of Colorado Springs.

Olegario Acosta-Castro, 34, is a resident of Mexico.

Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of these four fugitives is asked to call DEA Colorado Springs at (719) 866-6100.
