Here a smell, there a smell, everywhere a smell smell

ok...I'm following the SOS tek. I cased b+ about five days ago. A couple days after I cased, the casings smelt very bad. It was a smell I've never smelt. Its very hard to describe the smell but it didn't smell like soil! I kept the casings incubating and know, about three days later the mycelium grew through and they are ready to go into the grow chamber. The smell is GONE! The casings smell like soil...like I though they should. Is this normal? Has anyone expierenced this? Should I get 86 the casings or are they ok?

PS-no visual signs of contams....just nice white mycelium...healthy looking!

SOS = sack of shit, shit on shingle, soup of soup, silly old sally.
Ya need to define whatcha talking about.

Bad smell, like what? Dead fish, whiskey puke, hot squirting shitzzz, or what?

A nasty smell in a cased substrate is often a sign - something is wrong.

Whatever it was, sounds like it's gone, if it now smells like good garden dirt.

Don't mean to sound cranky. But one needs some straight simple info to answer a Q?

I'm willing to bet SOS means sea of shrooms. And he just said it's like nothing he has ever smelled before, lighten up.

SOS = Sea of shrooms
It smells like extremely bad feet and very sour...combined.
But like I said, the smell eventually goes away and the mycelium grows through with no signs of contam.
The casing mix was verm/B+/jiffy mix plus
It incubated at optimal temp/rH
The casing is in a 5oz plastic cup (clear with black electric tape around it).

oh...and I agree with pillsbury...lighten up...damn!

I would not be suprised if some green shows up. I know of a casing that had that smell and then it went away. And then this white stuff ,which the person growing it thought was myc., turned up. Then out of nowhere it all turned green and mushy. Good luck.

I see what everyone is saying. It is so hard to form an opinion when you see both sides so clearly!
