ID help...please
    #1335175 - 02/25/03 04:15 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Ok, i just picked about 200 of these mushrooms....growing out of cow shit..
They are a white/yellow/goldy colour. Like a white at the edges of the caps, and slowly getting darker up to the top of the cap, wich sort of comes to a rounded point and on most of the mushrooms is a dark gold colour.
They have REALLY dark spore prints, even the grass they were growing in was staind black from the spores.
They bruies a really dark blue colour aswell....long and tallish..skinny stems, smoth caps.
Any help would be great

Well they're Panaeolus/Copelandia for sure. What part of the world are you in? I'm thinking they're Copelandia cyanescens, but I'm not seeing the bluing that you speak of, so I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah the blueing is hard to see because of the poor quality camera, but all the stems went blue where i picked em.

As long as the prints are all black and the stems all briuse blue, then those sounds like the ones! Good find

Yeah, you are one lucky SOB.

They do appear to be copelandia cyanescens...

Do you live in a warm/wet climate of Austrailia?

They look like Copelandia Cyanescens to me - as they have said bliack spore print and pronounced dark blue staining indicates that the ID sounds correct! Bluemeanies fruit everywhere in manured pasture and manure throughout NSW and southern QLD and ive found them in Victoria as well. Reported also from South Australia and Darwin in NT.
Aussie copes are robust too - nice to cultivate as they tend to have bigger fruits invitro than copes from other countries.

ok, the pic is rather grainy and there are a lot of artifacts, but i enhanced the pic and i can see the bluing rather well. the areas where the stipes where griped are circled in red.

[edit: oops, i guess the pic would help...]

here's the pic:

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
