make your own theories on music. afterall, that is what music is for... your own interpretation of the piece.
You're an idiot. Learning theory doesn't make you a pussy.
Learning theory will make you progess as a musician infinitly faster and makes it 100% easier to compose songs and harmonize with multiple instruments.
Most people who just "trip out and play their way maaaaaan" are just happening upon certain keys and scales without realizing it. Things that could be explained with theory if you weren't a lazy ass.
If you take the time to learn to scales, and THEN be creative with it... you'll progress a hell of a lot quicker.
I think your excuse is just one of laziness. But play however you want... I don't give a fuck. I can tell you this though- the best music is written by highly creative people who take the time to actually understand their instruments.
naw, you're the idiot. i never said don't learn theory... i just said that you should learn your own way, preferably... even if you've learned theory, you still have to learn your own methods of playing your shiste little instrument.
talent show hack.

i was talking to someone, not speaking in general. pull your head out of your ass, shit for brains.
read the rest of my posts in the thread... i clearly have stated also that theory is good to know.
keep learning your way... and keep telling people it's the best way.
i still say it's for poontabs like yourself to get ahead of the curb so you can stand a chance of selling some crock rock to more underprivileged guitar wank-jobs.
yeah... seriously. stop taking your little lessons so seriously... it limits potential... it's taught that once you learn guitar theory, you should forget about it.
it's only a guide... so yeah, on my last note here... stop tellign people how they need to play.
i know didn't... i merely responded to one person... who said he was pissed about not being able to decide whether to learn theory or just play the way he was playing.
it's was only my opinion.
guitarists, sometimes... oh my fucking...

Heres a song that I made with with some experimental guitar and electronic parts. I took a heroic dose of cubes when I wrote it and I was scared shitless. You can hear it in the song.

Nice, 3rd Eye. Sounds pretty cool.
And to contrast, here's me dicking around in garage band a while back
I was playing the electric with the delay, the other things were loops.

Learning music theory, with no set goal in mind as to WHAT your learning, WHY or WHERE you intend to use it of course is a big waste, will bore you, and you'll not learn anything from the deal.
There is much out there that properly applied, will aid you in SO many ways. Knowing the rules, BEFORE you attempt to then BREAK the rules, will pay off, big time.
Having a solid, well cared for Guitar, intonation set up by a Luther, will give you a Guitar that plays in tune at all positions, and SOUNDS good. Learn to SING what you play. Many people will tell you they don't care to get into others tunes, but a tune is a phrase that carries a melody, and being able to express a tune over a chord change that someone can hum is a BIG deal, even if it is a SIMPLE one.
My Hero, amongst many others, is David Gilmour, and while he isn't a big tapping guy, his solos have a melody, and he imparts a soulful musicality to them that is hard to deny. His Guitars are in proper tuning and intonation, and his gear is well maintained, to include GOOD cables. Another issue that many players cut corners on.
99% of the stuff ANY guitar player shreds off? if you can HUM it? and the TONE is tasty? your well on your way to being the shit.
Employ music theory that applies well to what you are going after.
I will try to upload some samples of what I do at home with my rig to this thread this week. Keep on jamming out!

a somewhat sloppy take of a song I've never been able to put words to.
it's in one of my favorite altered tunings, DGDGAD. because i never put words to it never structured into a cohesive whole.
i got a bunch of songs from this thread downloading and i listening to a few the other day. akuma, i really like the improvisation you did but i wasn't a fan of neiti neti's counter melody. otherwise sick shit though
twighead, your stuff is downloading.
jimtown, everything you've posted has been awesome, i really love it
devilish, the guitar in that is sick as FUCK dude! good shit
3rd eye, the beginning the end is awesome at like 2:3ish, when you regain your rein on chaos & start playing that increasingly sick riff. you got a good sound man

That's pretty sick man and cheers. Can I show you a song? It sounds like it's in the same tuning. I'll leave a link instead of clogging up the thread with videos. h ttp://ww w.youtube.com/watch?v=psbYYHqwdcA
I'm sure you'll like it
Good thread btw,it's nice to hear what people are up to.

well, so you know... i did that just one piece of music... every note up on my keyboard... to produce the track.
i did relatively fast, and like... probably around two and half, to three years ago. so it's an easy track... it isn't hard to make. just one thing posted on top of itself in different ways.

Thanks man. It was a little something I wanted to try and come up with. Not a lot of people listen to my atuff so It's good to hear some comments on it.
Your song is very soothing, a nice folk vibe to it. I have been on a big acoustic kick lately and I enjoyed listening to it as with most songs in this thread. It's nice to see some fellow creative shroomerites at work.
My headset mic is not that great for recording but here's a riff I just recorded called Soleil.
