Ok, this is going to be one of those "duh" posts for you longtimers, but it's just so exciting to me!

Jimmy the Ocelot's first birthed cake is covered in little knobs just one day after being dunked then birthed. Right after birthing, it was barely bumpy at all. So these pins are little pre-mushrooms, right? So more knobbiness often indicates more fruiting?

Also - Jimmy started a batch of 6 pint jars and a quart jar of WBS, and while 3 of the pints and the quart started a little growth, 3 didn't. He moved the whole incubator into a styrofoam cooler, which kept the temperature up around 84 degrees (as opposed to between 78-80 deg F)- and BLAMMO - the WBS is colonizing like mad. Just is disappointing because he tossed two pints of WBS because they didn't show any growth whatsoever, but now the previously uncolonized jar looks like it's stuffed with cotton! Agh! For Jimmy, it seems that even though much of what has been read said 78-80 should be fine, 84 degrees F gave everything a kickstart (including the BRF cakes which weren't fully colonized til then.

I apologize if this isn't the exact forum for this, but I was just too excited and needed to share!

Nice! Yeah you are getting hyphal knots right now. Pretty soon they will turn into primordia and then into pins. Congratulations!
