if i mix gelitin, water to make it jello-y, put it in a test tub, and put a piece of cake in it, do you think the mycelium will continue to grow??

why not just use some dextrose/honey/karo water and put it in the tube?

You can't use gelatin as agar, it gets digested by the mycelium (unlike agar)

It will work...but it is better to use agar.

gelatine will be not very solid at incubation temps.
why do this at all though.
seems if its in a test tube you are going to do a transfer so why not just transfer the piece of cake an skip the agar gelatine bit?

The gelling agent isnt the food source, you would need to put some dextrose or malt extract in there. Also if using a solid media dont forget to let the stuff set at a slant. But it would just be easyer to simple use water with small traces of malt extract or dextrose.
