do you believe it is possible
    #1333634 - 02/25/03 08:12 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

for the human eye to see other electromagnetic spectrums other than the visible one? by this im talking about uv, gamma, xray, microwave, etc...
if so, how? ive seen auras several times while under the influence of certain psychedelics and even sometimes while sober. is it possible im just seeing other light spectrums?

With the physical eye- No.
The proteins in our eyes (rods and cones) only react to the "visible" spectrum of light (ROYGBIV). We can't see infrared (or radio waves) and we can't see UV light (or X-rays).

What you "saw" on your psychedelic quest was a hallucination... it wasn't there. What your mind's eye "saw" was your brain reacting to a molecule that mimicked the actions of the neurotransmitter, serotonin. The aura that you saw was not really there. NOTE: I'm not arguing whether or not auras exist, I'm just saying that what you saw didn't.

Mathematically and logically, the human eye is impossible.

Where do you come up with this shit?
I think medicine has the eye understood quite well...

I think the "auras" you're seeing are just resonatic images, where like if you look at one thing for a while it will gain a kind of "aura" that is really just persisting images because you can't hold your head and eyes perfectly still..

Thats just my take on it though - sure would be cool if we were actually seeing real stuff that we can't normally see

Lol, if it's so impossible, how is it that I'm using not one but two of them to read your post right now?

I don't mean to make either one of sound stupid camel, but what the hell are you talking about? What do you mean the human eye is supposed to be a perfect camera? What do you mean that according to the math the human eye should never have occured even with "trillions and trillions" of years of evolution. It might just be me, but it seems like you're not making any sense. Please explain yourself better.

It is supposed that the human eye is the most perfect video camer ever. The lense and optic nerve are PERFECT. It couldn't get any better than it is for the survival of humans. And if you did the math, even with trillions upon trillions of years of evolution, the human eye should have never occured, I didn't contest that we understand it very well, because we do, I don't know where you came up witht that.

actually your wrong. humans are capable of recieving the widest spectrum of sounds (out of most animals) but when it comes to vision, our vision can only view a very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. a bee has better vision than us because they can see the visible, infra red, and one other which i cant remember

Are you saying that another animal or bug's view on the same reality we humans live in is different? If so, then I agree.

yes. humans vision horrible compared to other animals/insects
i have no clue what the person was talking about above when he said humans have PERFECT vision. we can only see 1 spectrum.

I think he was trying to say that our vision is PERFECT for our early survival and advancement, which may be correct  although some infa-red would be nice

As a side note, there is a theory that humans evolved to see only in the visible spectrum, because the sun produces the most electromagnetic radiation which falls in this thin band of light waves. Nature it seems adjusted our vision to the most common electromagnetic waves being produced.

if you have your lens removed you could see UV as a color.

Cognitive scientists still do not agree on how sight functions. I think it's definately possible for our eyes to be able to see into other 1. Planes of existence or 2. visible light spectrums.

I see auras quite frequently, whenever I concentrate and observe an individual from a distance. At this point, even when I try not to see it I still do. I've seen auras change shape as well.
i've done multiple thought-experiments to determine if I'm just subconsciously playing around with after images, but my evidence points to the contrary.
One example is today I was staring off and my prof was standing about 3 metres in front of me. I was kind of staring off at him but without my eyes focused on him, more behind him. He was facing straight at me then he turned as he turned i saw a dark yellow aura, (white background wall) and I didnt turn my head, and as he walked away to the side, his aura followed him, so it wasn't an after image....
I see multiple layers of colors around people sometimes. But usually just a layer that looks like clear smoke-like distortion around their head and shoulders.
