I've made several artistic clay pipes for the smoking of unspecified dry plant material.
Halfway through making one, I started tripping out on the paraphenalia law. The block of clay was totally legal. The finished pipe will not be. Right now, halfway complete, it's a decorative sculpture. If I punch one more hole in it, it's an illicit device. But if I put more holes in it, you can't smoke out of it anymore, or if I add another lump of clay here, it won't work as a 'pipe' anymore, then it's ok- suppose it turns into an ocarina or an oil lamp that you can coincidentally smoke out of too...?
At what exact point does this oddly shaped lump of clay in my hands take on an illegal topology?
Think about that. Illegal topologies.
We live in interesting times...
Alot of ppl dont realize the extent to which their freedoms hang by the thread of such legal ambiguities. Once the govt stops giving us the benefit of the doubt, it will be nearly impossible for anyone not to be in violation of some ambiguous anti-drug and/or anti-terrorism law. More than likely you have some plant growing on you property like morning glory or desmanthus illinoensis that contains controlled substances. The law is not clear at all as to when it becomes a violation; and technically its all illegal except for some dual-use cases, and even those appear to be totally at the discretion of the authorities. The door is wide open (and has been for a long time) for the govt to take arbitrary action against citizens, largely to serve economic interests.

You know that is the very thing that scares me the most. I find it heartbreakingly sad that legal activities are being shut down because of a crazy drug war. And to me the scary part is that the laws are so broad and wide sweeping that things are getting to the point where anyone, and I mean anyone at just about anytime can be found to be in some kind of violation of something and be arrested.
Its just so strange, its like its going to not be safe to just walk down the street. Not because of crime but because of cops.
Well I guess because of both, but I worry more about a cop stopping me.
So does that mean that lighters are no longer legal? Cause I can use them to burn illegal material for ingestion. Does that mean an empty 2 liter coke bottle is not legal if it has the bottom cut off because I might use it for a gravity bong? Pretty soon it going to be not legal to even draw a picture of a bong. "Get Down on the ground!! Did you just use the word bong?! Your going to jail right now!!"

Excellent observation! He really does look like the Smoking Man! That's an interesting bit of serendipity. As McKenna said DMT occurs as a part of ordinary human neurometabolism, and DMT is an illegal drug, therefore the government outlawed human beings some time ago.
