purple gilled azurescen
    #1332904 - 02/25/03 12:07 AM (14 years, 8 months ago)

hey im new at this but in a large wooded area i found a few shrooms that look just like azurescens but the only thing weird is they have purple gills.the stem is wavy and they grow near rotten wood. Also i had one for about 30 min and it didnt bruise after i pinched it.The only other characteristic i noticed is the gills smelled just like black licorice.i live in cali near sac.i have not gotten a spore print just yet.but will tomarrow.
thanks later bros

first, there aren't any azures known to grow anywhere near sac. second, it's the wrong time of year for them.
the licorice smell would definately rule them out aswell.
i suggest you gead the two sticky threads on iding mushrooms before you post a mushroom id request.
good luck.

Did it look like this?

http://www.grzyby.pl/gatunki/Dermocybe_semisanguinea.htm

Be careful - it could be a poisonous Dermocybe or Cortinarius.

If you wish hard enough all mushrooms look like azurescens. If it doesn't blue it isn't good. Purple gills might indicate a Laccaria species. I found some of those a couple of days ago so the season is correct.

You most likely DO NOT have an Azure...

Reasons being as stated above...wrong area, and wrong time of year. You probably have something poisionus... :frown:

Do these resemble your find? If they are the same, then yours will have a white spore print.

Laccarias are described by some mycologists as the "weeds of the fungal world", because they last longer than most mushrooms so you often find them in incredible numbers. None of them are known to be poisonous.

Happy mushrooming!

well those resemble whats growing in my front yard that ive been to lazy to request an id for here. so at least i know what they are now. they grow like mad crazy out there i have like 60 of em. note that my "yard" is really just a sand hill with some weeds i have to mow every so often. also they were near a live oak like stated on the page u provided. but that was for cali and i live in texas just wondering here but could they be the same or is what i have most likely a relative? dont worry im not going to eat them like this guy im just curious. peace

THe shrooms depicted in Tooxicmans post are probably not what is growing in your lawn since they are a muclch woodchiop gerowing shroom and not found in lawns.

Anyway good luck. P. azures are common along the Oregon Coast.
