How much can you lift?
    #1332822 - 02/24/03 08:41 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

I lift b/c of the sport I'm involved with and I'm in weight lifting so I see others talk of using creatine and other supplements used for getting stronger.

How much do you weigh?
What can you do in the gym?

I'm 185lbs

Bench - 315lbs
Clean n Jerk - 225lbs so far

I wanna bench 400 or double my weight in bench so I can get this award. I forget what it is but its supposed to be a big honor and more impressive for colleges.

weight lifting sucks

push up and pull-ups all the way... me and my brother used to have pull-up competitions, we can both do 30 or so now.

I think the only time I've ever tried to bench, I did like 135  Of course I was a scrawny-assed 125 lb freshman in highschool. I kinda did it as a bet because I could do  a shit load of pullups and everbody just blamed it on me being a lightweight, so they bet me $10 I couldn't bench my weight...I've actually got a decent frame, and would like to start lifting, but I don't know anybody else who does, and I can't do shit like that by myself.

Well if you can bench your own weight that's a pretty damn good start. Shit, see if your school has a weight lifting team. Get a friend or get to know someone who lifts as a partner or whenever doing something really heavy on bench or what not get whoever to spot you. If you got a football team ask one of the coaches what's up with form and what you should do for a work out.

That's only if you wanna go into it, but if you can bench your own weight then you can do something that NOT MANY people can.

hahahahha, well dude, you should beef up a little. If you ever get into a fight or fall down, that muscle helps you. And if you got a lil neck and perhaps you get into a car accident and get whiplash, then again if you did the bench press and got something of a neck then you could brace yourself better and won't hurt yourself as much or prolly not at all.

I weight about 195

Bench: 285 last summer(can't go near that now because it HURTS my shoulders and makes me feel old)
Squat: 355 last summer(hurt my lower back squatting, and that's the end of that maybe forever)

Don't do jerk and cleans unless you count what I do before I fall asleep sometimes

Yeah, as far as brute strength goes it sucks having long arms.  Bench has always been my weak point...I know short guys half my size who can outbench me.  In a way I envy their short limbs

Deadlift is an exception though...one of the only exercises where being short doesn't offer an advantage.  The world record holder for DL is 6'9"!! (lifted 925 pounds)

I think my college offers a weight lifting class actually, I should look into it most definately. I don't think I'd ever be hardcore into it or anything, but maybe going 2-3 times a week just to add on some muscle mass would be nice. I'm out of shape now,  and about 30 lbs heavier....too many of those 12oz curls.  :smirk:

Bench: 315lbs

I'm 6'0 even but have arms of an orangutang so benchings tougher compared to those guys with T-rex arms.  :smirk:

I'm 6'3
I weigh 197
I dont lift shit....people say I should, and that I have a lot of potential...but fuck it...sometimes I'll even start doing pushups and situps for a while..but then I start slacking off....I think I just need like a group or exercise buddy or something to keep me motivated....I might get the Bowflex...anybody try that? I've heard good reviews on it...

I lift weights three times a week but when it comes to powerlifting I'm not much to look at. I don't have particularly big muscles either.

Personnally if I were you I wouldn't get a bow-flex. I'd save the money($799) on some websites and get a membership at a gym(probably 2 years at a decent one). That way you have spotters, meet new people, have access to cardio equipment as well and feel motivated not to waste your gym pass.
THe 3 second trial I did on a bowflex didn't impress me at all t be honest, very jerky.
