Is this sofware too advanced to run on my computer?
    #1332670 - 02/24/03 06:53 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

It's Chessmaster 9000 and I ordered it yesturday before I saw the requirements. They are:

System Requirements:

From http://chessmaster.ubi.com/SysReq.htm

Windows 98/ME/XP (95 and 2000 are not supported)
Pentium II 450 or AMD K6-3 500
64 MB RAM for 98 & ME (128 Recommended)
128 MB RAM for XP (256 Recommended)
DirectX 8.1 (included on disc)
Video Card (DirectX 8.1 compatible)
300 MB Hard Drive Space
3D Video Card optional
56K modem for Internet play
CD-ROM Drive

I have plenty of Ram and everything else but my PC's CPU is an AMD K6 -2/400. Will this run on my PC? Now when I bought this PC is set me back $1800. Is it obsolete and not even run my chess program or will it just not run the 3d graphics that are part of the 9000 release? I could care less about 3d chessboards anyways.

The chances are it will run but you have to try it and see, I managed to get GTA 3 working on an AMD K6-2 350 with 320mb RAM and a GF4 MX440 and that game doesnt run on a lot of high-end machines, the only way to find out is to try it.

Yes, I believe that it should run just fine... but if you have any dobts see if you can return it to the retailer if it turns out not to be compatiable (many software retaliers have strict return policies on software as an atempt to wean out purchases made for the purpose of pirating only.... But Im pretty sure that some retailers will allow one to return software.

I'm relieved it should run on old betsy afterall. I doubt I could return it though. I bought it online from a software discounter. Great price, including shipping I saved $15 off retail. I paid 25.20 altogether instead of $40.

I can't download a 151 mb file. If I do a 30 mb file I just leave the ole betsy on all night and go to bed. I'd have to track it down in rar'ed sections like I did photoshop. Broadband must be nice, but dial uo is free. Can't beat that. Edit: Besides, there's over 300 mb on the disks and 150 mbs doesn't come close to that. I wonder if the big file version has all the tutorials the disks have and the endgame databases and everything else. Not that it matters now, I've spent my money already. It'll be a great chess program that will play at any skill level I choose and I'll learn a helluvalot from it.

Don't worry - it will work! Maybe some graphics won't run very smoothly, but that's not very important with chess.
