South African GrowLog first flush finished pics at end of post
    #13325376 - 10/12/10 11:45 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

its been about 2 weeks since birthing my south africans and their isnt ay sign of pinning at all. all of the south african cakes have started to produce really fluffy mycelium all over them.. any tips on how i can get these babys to fruit? the temperature of my grow space is 23 degrees celcius and the humidity is around 95% fanning 3 times a day and misting twice.

Update: so now that things are working i figure i'll make this a growlog  the cakes were made with a mixed flour of 50% brf 50%rye flour in the regular pf fashion and left to colonize a week and a half before birthing. 2 and half weeks later we have signs of pins and a shit ton of mutants on one of the cakes. theirs pictures down below enoy  30 more jars on there way.

fluffy mycelium means your not getting enough air

i would suspect your fruiting chamber was not built properly

If you have not already built a SGFC(Shot gun fruiting Chamber)
do so now. Make sure you build it properly, holes on all
6 sides, lift the chamber off your surface with something so
air can get underneath, and add at least 4" of moistened perlite.
If you have any other questions about building a SGFC use the
search engine to further your research.

What is your current setup out of curiosity?
:goodluck:

currently i have them in a rubbermaid with 3 one inch holes on all sides but the bottom im gonna make the holes a little bigger and put some in the bottom. the cakes themselves are sitting on patches of damp vermiculite and their is condensation on the sides of the tubs. hopefully fanning more and bigger air holes will help. thanks for the advice guys

that setup is probably the reason your cakes havent pinned. humidity and fae are probably low, condensation isnt really a sign of high humidity. if you have a hygrometer calibrate it and check the humidity again.

a shotgun fc would be much better for your cakes if you can build one. I'd duck tape the one inch holes and then put a ton of .25 mm hol3s in the tub. fill it with 4-5 inches of wet perlite. you can get a big bag of perlite for < 10 bucks at a garden store.

and make sure you have 6500k light, thats also a pinning trigger.

The thumbnails look like styrofoam cups caught in a mudslide or like you're in the middle of making a sand castle on the shore.

Were you unable to find perlite or something?

Never seen that TEK before... You'd be much better off using a SGFC setup. I found that the best way to grow green was to have random piles of verm in my FC.

Verm is a bad choice to use in a fruiting chamber. It is completely different from perlite.

Verm absorbs moisture, while perlite has a massive surface area that holds moisture so it can be wicked off from natural air currants.

If I were you try to find some or go online and buy some

Also get some foil or lids between your cakes and the verm you are using to supply humidity to your chamber. By no means should they be touching each other
