rotten apples?
    #1332410 - 02/24/03 04:45 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

A FOAF was going to spawn some pasteurized wheat straw with horse dung (50/50). The pasteurized dung smelled very bad (like hot, fresh shit) after it was cooked (hes done this many times before with hardly any smell from the same tub of poo).

Concerned, he repaseurized twice more for 2 hours each time(all of this done in a commercial pasteurizer, so temps were within proper range of 150-170). He then spawned even though the smell persisted. A week later he checked the progress and everything looks A-ok, except the tub smells like rotting apples and/or fruit. Anyone have any clues as to why?

Which kind of dung your friends uses ?
It must be dry, then hydrated. Fresh dung gives bad results in my experience.
Anyway, a bad smell it's not a good sign, watch out those casings.

the HORSE dung was already dry (in a big tub of dry dung that he used in about 4-5 other casings with no bad smells). The dry dung was then pasteurized and thats when the smell appeared.
