Overlay and scraping

A friend wrote me to say, A few of the casings have some overlay on them. When scraping, how deep should it go? Should the caSINGs be recased with a new thin layer?

Picking the fruits will leave holes in the casing,just fill with casing and put a thin layer across the whole top.Never "deep scratch"a casing,and if your getting overlay before the first flush then something else is fucked up.What tek is your friend using?
