I am limited to about 20 sq miles out here the government wont let me drive... so i bike and have about 60-70% mycoryzicly mapped. and if anything else my azure patch looks to have lots and lots of bluing primordia forming. I'll just keep chanting my mantra and keep talking latin to ground, as i wonder, like usual. hope to have better pics posted this season. Good luck in all your ventures.

I found this over a month ago and ate it. Was during the trip I munched it down, was positive it was a Strictipes! Bright purple spore print. Tasted the same as Libs as well.

Oh my God!  I didn't know those were there.  Incredible haul.  I camp at Wildwood every other year.

Sweet.

I meant Libs in the Pine Barrens of Long Island.

Oh. I was tripping when I decided to chuck it down so my decisions were slightly silly and hasty (:D), thought it sounded like the exact description (chocolate brown gills, cinnamon brown cap, viscid, low umbo, etc) on strictipes from the Shroomery!

This is a wicked thread.  Mikeyyork, your posts are fantastic.

Those fat ones are awesome, and I believe vaguely reminiscent from round your end.  It would really be fun to play with them in the lab and the closet.

Maybe some samples of Panaeolus papilionaceus should be included as lookalikes as well. Especially when they have a light coloured cap and a nipple they are sometimes confused with libs by beginners.

Those and some small dry Stroph semis can still give me pause for thought.

Thanks for the kind words Joie,,.
I still pick semiglobata by accident sometimes, they're usually easy to tell once you have them in your hand. There's one type of pan with an incurved margin that has me bending over but i don't see it that often.

The fatties are probably lurking in my stash somewhere, i'll keep an eye out for more.

I queried those beasty ones as possible psilocybe baeocystis in the past, unfortunately I only had the idea once they had been hauled in so could only produce these low quality pics:

They do look remarkably like them at times:

However baeo's are only known to be native to North America, bruise blue intensely and grow on woodchips. Therefore it is wise to assume the mutant lib route.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for any similar this season, if things pick up...

Plus that flat stipe, every one i've seen with this kind of cap has a flattened stipe.

The cap margin on the big one on the right here looks like a lib, it's like varying degrees of mutation going right to left, the biggest had the flattest stipe.
I always find them in prime lib habitat.

Yours is a beast btw,, nice,,.
