Casing Q's...overlay? (PICS!) first time casing
    #1330415 - 02/24/03 03:00 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

OK, I put my six SOS casings in my terrarium about 5 days ago. When I put them in, the mycelium was just about showing in some of the valleys. They all looked good so I lowered the temperature to about 70 degrees, 96%rH and light about 3 hrs a day. Now I look at the cassing and the mycelium seemed to keep growing. The casings are now completely cover with no sign of the soil (I can see it lightly through the layer of mycelium) Is this bad? Can I tell if there is Overlay?

You can clearly see the difference here. The casing on the right looks correct to me (from what I've seen in pictures) It has some soil and the valleys have mycelium growth. The cassings on the left are fully covered with mycelium...is this ok...should I through some cassing mix on it?

My setup, about 70degrees 96%rh and a light. All six are SOS cassings. Does this look normal?

One of the completely colonized casings...to much?

by the way...its B+
Thanks for the input...

Everything looks fine. The casing colonization is a bit heavier than I like to see but I do not think that overlay is an issue.

You did not mention how and how often you are providing air exchange. This is important for pin formation.

I've been trying to fan at least twice a day. I probably haven't been as good with this as I should be...I'll get better promise.

is there maybe too much humidity, those are casings, and casings require less rh, becasue the casing provides suitable fruiting conditions.

maybe the high rh is too much, just a thought.

I think I've read casings require about 95%rH...

A while ago I was poking through some FAQs and I found a good list of each growing stage and what the optimal conditions are supposed to be. It was laid out very well and very to the point. Can anyone point me to this, I can't seem to find it again.
