Grow Supplies In Canada 9

A lot of you may have seen me around the boards in the past year as I have begun my journey into growing and studying gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. During this time I have faced many interesting challenges and questions in regards to purchasing supplies from Canadian companies and stores. Some things are just damned tricky to find in Canada!
Some members have suggested starting a sticky thread to help other Canadian members find certain items and I believe this is a great idea and I will be starting and maintaining this project.
If you are a Canadian member and know of any good sites for certain supplies please make a post! Share the information, they do not have to be online sites but perhaps different stores and the province they are located in. I will be adding to this list as I find links, stores and time to write up blurbs on places to look for certain items. I will also add as others post links. I hope this will become a tool that will help out countless Canadians down the road! Cheers EM666
Thanks for everyone's help! I will try to keep the main post updated, but please everyone read through as there are many GREAT Ideas being shared here EH.

I have yet to find 1/2 pint wide mouths for sale in Canada that are tapered on the sides. Some stores carry Bernardin 1/4 pint jars that are tapered on the sides, but all the 1/2 pint wide mouth jars I've seen have straight sides with a slight bulge. Anyone know of a store that carries tapered wide mouth 1/2 pint jars?
Same problem here.
One product I've had a hell of a time finding in Canada is denatured alcohol for flame sterilizing. So far I haven't found it, so for flame sterilizing my needles I use a butane torch lighter to heat the needle until red hot moving from the base to the tip. Not very comfortable but it seems to work.
If you mean isopropol alcohol It's usually behind the counter at drug stores. Failing that If they want to know why you want 99 iso you can use it to sterilize egg incubation chambers.
So far I've been unable to find a store that carries decent sized pressure cookers. I've been looking for a while but so far the only size I've found is the Presto 6 quart. I'm more in the market for a 17-27 quart pressure cooker. Anyone know of a store that carries them?
I had to go online PRESTO COOKERS anything large is called a "Canner", so if you just look for "Cooker" you will only find small ones.
FedEx for Tyvec envelopes, find an office near you and get a few, they won't blink it you keep it reasonable like 4 or less. Or you could buy a bunch from STAPLES
Syringes, needles, 12 to 20 CC UFA but you pay out the ass
Syringes, needles, up to 5 CC Almost any drug store, ask at counter 18 gauge 1.5 inch about 10 cents each. save the recipt it's a tax write off LOL (Serious)
6 inch or 3.5 inch spinal needles....looking for some now.

I spent some time today trying to get a good deal on some grain for grain spawn. I first called around about WBS and of course the selection around is limited as it tends to be a seasonal item. Only thing I could find without cracked corn and grain chips was scotts premium finch seed on sale for $9.99 for a 8lb bag. I have used this WBS before and it is very nice to work with. I do believe it is a mix of millet, milo and nijer seed.
I also called 3 different feed mills around my town and not one single place had any type of grain usable for mushroom spawn. I am very surprised by this.
Having wanted to switch to rye or wheat berries for some time I thought I would head over to the bulk barn and see what the deal was.
As someone had mentioned earlier Bulk Barn in Canada sells "Hard Wheat Kernels" which are wheat berries. Here is what I found out:
Hard Wheat Kernels - $2.40 / KG $1.09 / LB 25KG bag = $60 + 10% off for buying sealed bag = $54
I went ahead and purchased 5.625 Kg - 12.4Lbs at a cost of $13.50

This will allow me to get my feet wet with wheat berries, but I am still looking for a cheaper source.
Hope this helps someone out, I will add it to the first post.

Last night I choose to prepare 2.2Kg of wheat berries to get my feet wet so to speak. I first rinsed all the dust and other particles off the wheat with a few runs of filling and draining, before leaving to soak for 6 hours. After the 6 hour soak I placed the pot on the stove and brought to a simmer watching the grain carefully.
When the grain was hydrated I took the pot off the stove and drained off excess water before placing the wheat on a baking tray to cool. Once the wheat was dry on the outside I loaded into jars and PCed. All in all I think I much prefer wheat to WBS so far...if it was just a tad bit cheaper I would be set.
2.2Kg made 7L(Qt) jars and 2 small quarter pint tupperware containers.
Making 7L jars of spawn cost me roughly $5 which is to much to pay in my opinion. I will keep looking at feed mills and stores to see if I can find some rye or wheat berries cheaper. Hope this helps someone out in the future!

Propane torch all the way. No soot, adjustable and makes anything red hot in about a second. You can't spill or break it either. You do have to watch it when it's on but I don't consider it any more dangerous than a glass bottle filled with flammable liquid and set on fire...on purpose. To hell with soot. Burnt thumbs..
Why use a lighter?

As for yeast don't bother tracking down anything fancy.

Yeah any business located in the geographical anus of north america with a hotmail account is probably legit. I've been in Manitoba where they work out of, I'm betting the cops killed them. Manitoba police are positively militant.
He started a biz based on a class 3 controlled substance inside Canada...I'll eat my flow bench if he comes back.
Don't get me wrong, I love cops and Winnipeg is the murder capitol of Canada but I always carried a knife or a gun there. Funny story, I got a wonderful hardwood bedroom set from a cop from Winnipeg...Well I actually got it from his family, he ate his gun in front of it and I guess they didn't want it around. Looks great but the blood stains on top are kinda creepy. They got them out of the finished surfaces but the top was unfinished and it has a bit of a splatter problem.
Anyway, like I said Manitoba cops are wound kinda tight. But they do a really good job.
