shroom shake (not quite powdered) was recently discovered lying around, sealed in 2 bags, inside a metal box, i have had them in my possession since christmas 2010 so they are at least 8 months old with suspicion of the product being an extra 2 or 3 months old.i believe they were properly dried and there is no dampness in the bag would it be safe to make tea? a response would be greatly appreciated. very new to forums so if anythings wrong let me know.

As long as there is no evidence of mold, I would feel comfortable eating those.  I have dried mushrooms since March and they are fine but they do lose a bit of their potency.  Tea should be A-Okay.

SF Bay Area, Possible cubensis? outdoor in a pot with Plumeria [Re: auweia]
    #15077263 - 09/14/11 09:24 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Surprise mushrooms in an outdoor tropical plant pot.

Is it me? or do these look like cubensis?

I'll take a spore print when the first one opens.

Really surprised to see these, the plant pot is on a sunny south-west facing deck. It gets very hot in the afternoons. The plant has been given a fair amount of water lately (to counter the hot afternoons) and some fertilizer, and I think, some coffee grounds, other than the days getting shorter, I don't know what would have caused these to fruit now.

Meanwhile I've put some shade cloth over 'em, so, still hot, just not cooking in the sun.

Misted them too, on the basis that it probably won't hurt and might help.

Any help in ID would be greatly appreciated

their has been a few cases in southern california but the temperature isnt right up here you can cultivate them outdoors if you can manage to protect them from the elements? but i suppose an open mind is allways a chronic thing to have

I know it gets hot enough in central California, just gotta find those rare cow fields that get watered every day and I think it just might work. Just a theory though

*Off topic but is there a way to modify the genetic of cubensis to become more cold tolerant? I'm sure different strains all fruit and grow in different climates. maybe you could mix one that is cold hardy with one that will fruit in lower humidity.

Yea I'm thinking I'm going to have some in a greenhouse one year and try to simulate the humidity...
But PNW hotter than Florida? Have you ever been to Florida? Shit's intense.

Even if they can't thrive in fields here, all I know is I will have an outdoor Cube grow one day... Mark my words, it will happen. :hehehe:

I found a few small chanterelles popping up.  Also some death caps, and some edible Agaricus as well.

Should be a good season!
