A drug-fuelled violent crime spree in Tokoroa has landed a young man in jail.
Jeddediah Sorenson has been convicted of kidnapping, supplying methamphetamine and one count of aggravated robbery.
The 21-year-old had used magic mushrooms before he kidnapped another man in June this year for not giving him money to secure a drug deal.
Holding a knife to the victim's throat, he threatened to cut off his fingers and kill his family.
The victim escaped when Sorenson stopped to get petrol.
Judge Joanna Maze sentenced him to three years and four months for the aggravated robbery and kidnapping and 12 months for the drugs charge, to be served concurrently.

"Humans are not responsible - blame the mushrooms" Exactly.
To elaborate:
It is soo stupid. The reason they say that, is because they want to try to get their charges lowered because they want to claim they had lack of control of their self. They pray on the fact that most people have not done the substance and can not prove that it wasn't the cause and want the charges to get dropped.
It is just as dumb as "oh honey, I didn't mean to have sex with that person, I was drunk". So let's see, you decided to consume alcohol when you were around someone you wanted to have sex with, but at the same time, you wanted to be faithful to your spouse, and then you say "it was the alcohol, not me". Who drank the alcohol, you or the alcohol? When you drive a car and get into an accident, do you blame the car or yourself? When you shoot and kill someone, do you blame the person who shot the gun, or the gun and bullets?
Substances and objects do not force humans to do a specific action that they otherwise would be able to stop themselves from doing. If a substance or object FORCES someone to do something, than consuming or using that object, means that the person made it happen by putting their self in that situation, therefore, they chose to allow that to possibly happen.
"It isn't my fault I stabbed and killed that man, I bought a knife, what did you expect? Why did I buy the knife? Well, I ... uh.. I ... I saw an advertisement! The advertisement made me buy and knife and the knife made me kill someone randomly against my will! Ya! Thats it!"
