Agaricus arvensis?

Cap: 4-5 inchs wide although not fully mature. White and greyish tan on top, rather dry and slightly scaled. Top surface turns yellow when scraped but the fleshy bit inside doesn't stain at all.
Gills: start off very pale greyish pink, through pink to light brown (possibly dark brown in maturity but no specemins to verify). Gills are not connected to the stipe.
Stipe: 1 inch thick without any taper. Thich fleshy veil still attached. Base stains very pale yellow when sliced but stains deeper yellow when scraped or agitated.
Spore print: light purple/brown (EDIT) Scratch that, it's actually looking more brown the longer I leave it.
Smell: well it just smells mushroomy to me. I'm not sure what aniseed is meant to smell like but it is inoffencive and does not smell inky to me.
Location: grassy area close to road verge.
I want to be sure this is not Agaricus xanthodermus. I'll upload photos once my camera has charged.

Agaricus xanthodermus will smell very strong and unpleasant when cooked. If it is in fact an Agaricus and it smells good after sauteing then it should be safe to eat. Post pics to be sure though.

I don't think so, but it is difficult to tell from the specimens I have which are a bit ragged and dirty.

I believe (but not 100% certain) that A. Xanthodermus and it's allies while they stain bright yellow very rapidly, they fade rapidly too. A. Arvensis and allies will remain yellow.

I didn't know that but if that is true then they must be A. Xanthodermus because all the yellow stains have now turned brown, unlike these ones I found last year.
