After one week on my new job, a co-worker tells me he grows and sells weed

I got a warehouse job at a small company and after one week, a co-worker tells me that he grows weed and sells it. He also showed me some nugs in his car when I walked by on break. It's a small company...maybe 30 workers.
I asked him if it's medical and he said he wants it to be.
He said he went to law school to become a probation officer(parole officer) and got hooked on pain pills snd then got in a car accident and got a DUI. So now he can't become a probation officer.
Just seems strange to admit to that after only one week. He seems cool, I have no problem with him, but it kind of makes me think that he may in some way work with the police.
I told him that I used to smoke weed but haven't in 6 months because I'm taking a break(which is true).
What do you think?

Did he say this explicitly or is this your summation of what he said?
I don't know of any probation department that highers lawyers to be probation officers. If they even have a degree or a degree in anything relevant, I would imagine they'd get criminal justice certificates/degrees
If he said this, its a sure sign he's a bullshitter. Kinda like the nursing students I know who describe themselves as "medical stundents" and the nursing assitant students who claim they're going to nursing school
Regarding what i think: I think that guy's an idiot and probably has low self esteem and feels all special inside when he tells his new coworker that he's involved with top secret covert gardening. Informants gernerally try to get people to sell them crap, not the other way around.
Could be anything, but seems like common foolishness rather than any grand design.

probation/parole officers take criminology, as do police officers. You don't go to law school to be a cop, you go to be a lawyer

My bad, he did say criminal justice, not law school.

New jobs at least blue collar are usually easy way's to find connects. Probably found like 2 or 3 every time i got a new job in the first month or so. I'd be hesitant to do much with him since he obviously isn't to smart about what he does, but he's probably ok.

I'd find a new place to work if I wasn't offered nuggets in the first week at a new job. It's totally normal in my experience and there's always one that supplies the boys or girls.
Tell him to roll up or shut up.

If he is so willing to admit to his own illegal shit then what would stop him from telling other people about yours? I wouldn't hang out with someone who can't even keep their own personal business just that, personal.

Yeah, but I still think he works with the police.
Out of all of the few marijuana growers I've known, this guy just said it as if it were nothing. He asked me if I smoked weed, I said that I use to and he said "I grow and sell weed". That's not normal. What if my dad was a cop or something or if I had a friend that was a cop...?

two classes of people i can think of tend to make up similarly implausible and overly intricate stories: misinformed LEOs and junkies.
earily similar. it's like they received the same acting instruction.
