ultrasonics make a cool looking fog, but because they create humidity so quickly they won't be able to provide the same amount of air circulation that a cool mist will. A cool mist can be left running 24/7 and the humidity will be just right, and it will provide fresh air circulation. A ultrasonic definately cannot be left to run 24/7, as it will make your chamber extremely wet. you have to put it on a timer and figure out some other means of providing air circulation.

I prefer ultrasonic for cakes and cool mist for casings. You will need a timer for the ultrasonic, and they tend to burn out after a while.

that really depends on the size of your terrarium as well as the placement of the humidifier relative to cropping surface not to mention the ratio of the area of cropping surface to available airspace withing the terrarium. so maybe, maybe not.

would anything bad happen if you stuck a ultrasonic humidifier right in the fruiting chamber?

I have a few B'days coming up for the first time. I've already set up with an Ultrasonic connected to a 60 qt/ 56.7 L terrarium via three 2 L Coke bottles ( As per PF TEK). Would this still provide too much moisture w/o a timer. If so any recommedations for on/off times would be appreciated.

I?ve been borrowing my ultrasonic from my landlord, and now he needs it back. Now I will buy a new humidifier, but if I have to choose one type, should I go with the ultrasonic or the cool mist???\
I have a terrarium of 35 gallons or so.

In the past I've always liked using both coolmist for humid FAE and ultrasonics for maintaining RH.

Topic: cool mist humidifier Vs ultrasonic humidifier
Return of the dead threads...

We all know that ultrasonics provide the ultimate in humidity. To put it simply, it is artificial fog but thick like a cloud. An ultrasonic can fill a martha setup with fog so dense you can't even see the contents. The problems are you need to have them on a timer so they do not saturate the fruiting chamber, and the minimal air exchange as a result. There are some gimmicks I have seen come and go for reducing humidity output, but timing is essential IMO. Ultrasonics are generally easier to clean and are usually very quiet as well.

The cool mist...
Good for air exchange only, or small chambers. Problems are water spray output (instead of a true "mist"), somewhat loud noise output, and generally less efficient operation. The "water spray" output usually requires that the tubing be placed vertically to allow water to run back into the tank. The main problem I have with the cool mist humidifier is that there are lots of nooks and crannies inside where contamination can breed. It is very difficult to disassemble and clean every single part.

Use filtered water treated with peroxide in your humidfiers. Say goodbye to bacterial blooms in the tank as well mineral scaling. To drop the output on ultrasonics pipe them through a five gallon bucket drying stage.

Ultrasonic's any day over Coolmists. Not to mention you can use the Ultrasonic for sprore dispersal in syringes too. Coolmists seem to crap out after hard use.

Please explain how you can use an ultrasonic humidifier (as opposed to an ultrasonic jewlery cleaner) to aid in spore dispersal.

It will work, but much longer than a jewelry cleaner. (If you don't own a jewelry cleaner)

Edit: Just set them on top in a ziplock for a couple days.

Watch out running a cool mist 247. I had cakes fully colonized and green mold started growing on one. Bad idea to run ultrasonic 247 without air flow, and just bad to run ultrasonic 247 period.
