we push cakes cuz you can they are contam friendly.
you dont lose 2 quarts of spawn and 6 quarts of substrate.

you lose a half pint.

once your sterile technique is down.
go to bulk if you want

Again, I think the main reason cakes are pushed is because EVERYONE has done it at least once. So when complete noobs are asking ?? even people who haven't been super cultivating for years can help. It's like a learning curve type of idea.

And when it comes to bulk, there are a million diferent teks, theories, ideas, etc. So you get a lot of people with a lot of different ideas and experiences chiming in on bulk questions.

PF Tek is straightforward and so many people have had success, why wouldn't you?

PLUS PF TEK DOESN'T NEED A PC! I can achieve what I want without one, and I'm sure so can many others. If you spawn cakes (like a lot of people have recommended), you don't even need a PC to do bulk.

This.
If you don't own a PC and are unsure if you'll enjoy this hobby enough to continue and/or don't cook much then you're not in a rush to go buy one just to grow something you're not even be sure you enjoy growing and/or will have success with.

As opposed to PF Tek which you can find most materials around your house or get them all in one fell swoop in just one store sometimes (but fuck Walmart amirite?) Plus PF Tek, when the Tek is followed, is damn near fool proof. Sure you may loose a jar out of 5, but whats a few cents of materials?

Also, honestly, if you're not planning on selling mushrooms then a few PF Jars are most likely more than enough for personal use with a few close friends.

Plus Pf Jars make great gifts, back in the day I'd leave a few to fruit invitro, wrap them up and give them to friends for their bday or xmas. lol

What everyone seems to be missing is regardless of whether you use pf-cakes, wbs, rye, agar wedges, lc in reality all you're doing is moving a active culture from one food source to a another.

A two year old could grow mushrooms using cakes and the only difference between nutrient mediums is the level of sophistication going into the grow.

Some people have fully equipped labs, some people have a pot and a jar.

Really like what you said hybridprx... been doing cakes off and on whenever I feel like it.. I was taught by a friend.. then I come on here and there's this artists' community with all kinds of good info.. I've got three times the pins now and a lot more knowledge... my cakes even colonize twice as fast..

I don't have a clue what id do with a half-pound of mushrooms... but if someone wants to do the pf tek to take a little trip and learn something, i'd say that's the best way to go... imho..

as i watch the mycelum grow i notice that with only the mosture in the jar and the air in the jar i can seee after a week the mycelum would like more air and mosture then whats in the jar.

So maby a jar fae and mosture increaser tool could be added and would improve growth speed

you don't see anything at first.
One day, suddenly you will notice a tiny white spec here and there that gets bigger.

The more you move your jars around by looking at them and picking them up the likelier contamination will occur.
I can suggest leaving them be until they reach 100% or contaminate.
