Straw smell

hi i am growing some edibles and am, i used brf and now put it into straw, the day after i pasturized my straw(80min@170f) the straw smelled funny not bad but not good, is straw supposed to have a strong smell to it? i mixed in my brf to the straw on thursday morning, it is not saterday morning i notice not difference at all and it still has that strong smell to it, what should i do?

It's going to take a while for the straw to colonize; how long depends in part on the spawn to straw ratio you used. Be patient.

Straw does have an odor though not unpleasant.

yah, but i am saying no signs at all of colinizing, how long should i wait to see some signs of growth

was the brf cake fully colonized? How did you crumble the cakes? How short did you cut the straw ?    ... Straw has a strong odor. Have you never been to a pumpkin farm, or haunted house as a child? The damp straw can be nearly overwhelming.  In my aquaintances experience, Straw takes a long time to colonize using BRF cakes.  It takes them quite awhile to start mycelial growth again, and there are fewer innoculation points than with grain (unless you food proccessed them ).  Good luckj tho....  :shocked:

Make sure your straw isn't too moist. I started colonizing using pasteurized straw but I never let it sit afterwards long enough to drain properly. I had a small puddle happening in my bin but I fixed it.
