The Top 5 Worst States to "Truly Live" In... WTF?!!!

So... I was doing a perusal among the different shroom laws in all of the U.S. states, and came across some strait up fucked shit!
Top Maximum Penalties: Texas - over 400g - 2-99 years - USD50,000 Minnesota - over 500g - 25-30 years - USD1,000,000 Vermont - over 1000 doses - 15 years - USD500,000 Georgia - any possession - 2-15 years - have not found if there's a fine Montana - any possession - 5 years - USD50,000
Every other state is either <5 or considered a felony, in which case they calculate sentences based on their mood that particular day (coffee intake, spousal satisfaction, receding hairline, etc.).
Fines vary dramatically from state to state, generally based on the average political corruption for each region, but IMHO fines are nothing compared to doing time. Besides, they always pin you up with a fine anyway, and then they charge you, like a hotel, for your stay. Not to mention, if you have to wait 30 years to be able to work to pay off your fine, would it matter by the time you get released?
Back on subject.... Now, isn't there some serious cruel/unusual punishment going on? For example, in Minnesota you can kill a person with your car while completely schnockered out of your mind, and you'll still get a maximum sentence of 10 years. Manslaughter is 25. But, possessing about $400-500 worth of fresh wet shrooms will lock you up for 3 TIMES LONGER than drunken vehicular manslaughter. Last time I checked, the only practical way to kill someone with mushrooms is with a really big brick of em dropped from a really tall building, and just by chance hit a baby in the soft spot of its skull (or maybe a "shroom cannon"!).
Since when is murder more moral than mushrooms?(I should be a news headline maker!) How can it be just a slap on the wrist just no more than 2-3 hour's drive from one of these states, but they rank you up there with the violent/sexual crimes in those select few? Is experience and mental stimulation that evil??
I must hear opinions! I must know more about this! I must make an underground bunker!

Read this: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2003/nov/30/mushrooms_v_murder/
Draconian drug punishments arise from lawmakers wanting to appear tough on crime - drugs are an easy target. Eventually it gets to a point where you get more time for owning a plant than taking a human life.

New York should be on that list too, the rockefeller drug laws impose harsh mandatory minimums on small to medium amounts of mushrooms.

You should really look at top minimum penalties.

I shall, how ignorant of me! I'll have that edited in as well within the day or so. I think mention of anything like that "enhanced offense" reference in that link GreenT provided could be useful as well.

I would also be interested in the top minimum penalties, especially minimum penalties for my state (MN). I wasn't aware that we had such harsh penalties for mushies, but 500g is quite a large quantity unless they are fresh. I do agree that 30yr and $1mil is extremely cruel and unusual for possessing a relatively harmless fungus...
Our marijuana laws are pretty good for a non-medical state. Under 40g is a misdemeanor, and you are sent on your way with just a ticket...

A fellow soaked popsicle! Nice to see. I too appreciate the lax on the MJ, but man, I am less than 30 MINUTES away from WI. All they get is maximum 1 year county JAIL, or $5,000 fine. Call me 5, but its just not fair!!
I'm getting to the minimums as we speak. I just want to make damn sure my stuff is as up to date as possible. Its kinda tedious to sort through all the recent sentencing news for all 50 states; but at least it'll be accurate, so none of us can get the wool pulled over our eyes.

Texas has some harsh ass drug laws....as the statistics show as do most states in the south. The redder the state the worst it is it seems....take Alabama for example. Some of the trafficking penalties are right up there with manslaughter ect.

Getting busted with a book of acid will get you charged with distribution of a controlled substance.
There are no places where acid gets charged as manslaughter.
