Laredo police officer convicted of escorting cocaine loads 09/27/2010 - San Antonio News
BROWNSVILLE — A former Laredo police officer is facing a minimum of 15 years in federal prison after being convicted of using his police radio to keep watch as he and a fellow officer escorted 88 pounds of faux cocaine through the city.
Orlando Jesus Hale, also known as “Chacho,” was convicted Monday after a jury trial in Laredo last week.
An FBI agent in November 2008 posed as a drug dealer to work a deal with Hale and fellow Laredo officer Pedro Martinez III, who pleaded guilty in February and testified against Hale.
The two were paid $1,000 each to escort 44-pound loads of what they thought was cocaine through rush-hour traffic.
A second undercover agent met with them in San Antonio for the payout.
The jury found Hale, 27, guilty of conspiracy with intent to distribute cocaine, which carries a sentence of 10 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $4 million. Jurors also convicted him of carrying a firearm during the crime, which carries a five-year-minimum prison term as well as a $250,000 fine.
Hale, who has been fired from the police force, remains free on $150,000 bail pending a Jan. 10 sentencing.
A sentencing date was not immediately available for Martinez, who has been free on $100,000 bail and faces 10 years to life in prison for conspiracy to traffic more than 11 pounds of cocaine.
“The shameless acts of a few are not indicative of the men and women that proudly protect the community and continue to serve with integrity and courage,” Laredo Police Chief Carlos Maldonado said in a prepared statement.

He'll be running a new kind of escort service once the cop makes it to prison.

This same exact thing happened in my city around a decade ago but it was a little more than 88 lbs and the coke was real. This cop was hauling out 55 gal drums of it lol. Stupid.

Im really staring to doubt this statement ALWAYS made when ever I read one of these stories. Of course it would be the cops saying it.
