CA Prop 19. Are medical marijuana dispensaries against it?
    #13254112 - 09/27/10 02:19 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Wouldn't you think that the medical marijuana business in CA would be against proposition 19, since it would effectively put them out of business? What do you guys think about this?

There's a lot of greedy medical growers that are against it.

Why would they be against it? They already have an established business, so they'll have a head start.

True, but won't the margins suck? If pot prices drop to 50 an ounce, there's gonna be an across the board decline in revenue from the grower, retailer, on down. They'd have to make up for it in volume. I suspect that, if prop 19 does pass, that everyone who can make a buck from this is gonna do it. In other words, market flood. I think dispensaries have a lot to lose.

Is there any indication of that being even a remote likelihood?

That is the talk/speculation. I've heard lots of numbers thrown out in that ballpark.

That seems awfully low. Why charge $50 when most people are already paying 4-10 times that?

It sounds low, yes. But, if it's legal, then businesses will compete with one another and, in the process, drive prices down. It would be as available as coors light. There's no way that pot growers can keep scamming 300+ an ounce for something people can grow themselves.

Lots of dispensaries are against it because of the whole "I gots mine" attitutde; they have what they want, they like it the way it is, and they most certainly don't want new laws, regulations, and competition.

To sum it up the way others have: Greed and fear.

Dispensaries don't care about the movement, it's all about :money:

I don't know the statistics, but I'm sure a rather large percentage of "patients" are just pot heads. The current system is an easy one to work and is a means to the same end. But if weed gets legalized across the board then they will lose a lot of money and are therefore against it. Greedy bitches.

The market value of pot would go down if we legalize it
