A few Questions on Casing
    #1325400 - 02/21/03 06:37 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

I know these are probobly covered somewhere or other..I've read and read and these pop out:

1. When casing with, say, 50/50, how many cakes should be used? What are any benefits you would get from using a even thicker cake layer?

2. Do you usually sterlize the peat/vermiculite mixture before casing with them? I've read that in some posts, a lot don't mention that.

3.THis is just my quick summary of my understanding of working with the casing. Is this correct? If using, for example, a rubbermaid container for casing, you just put some moist vermiculite on the bottom layer, crumble cakes evenly over that, then put a layer of 50/50. Incubate for a few days, then transfer to fruiting chamber. The terrarium for the casing would just be a larger rubbermaid, watered vermiculite (or perlite?) then put the casings on top of them. Induce fruiting with right temps and light. You keep no lid or just saran wrap over them now? (Making sure to fan them, of course). Also, what moisture controls do you use when in this stage?

Thanks for the help. I haven't started any grow yet, or even have any experience with verm or anything like that. Just getting myself strait before I can get started. These are just questions I have from reading various logs and teks.

1. As many you want.I woudn't go over 3 inch thick though.
2. either sterilized or pasteurized
33. the outline sounds good.

Make sure you have read all the docs about casing in the www.shroomery.org/grow section .
