When does patience just run out?
    #1325337 - 02/21/03 07:42 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

Question, may be stupid and paranoid but a question no less!

I cased a few trays of birdseed Equadors in some peatmoss/vermiculate and oyster shell. All is well and they have been going at it for about a week in dark conditions with no air circulation so the mycliem builds itself of. THe white fuzz is poking through a few caverns. I know I should wait longer but I am impatient and it has been a week. I want them in the incubator but I don't want to fuck myself over. Is it cool to put them in early? Does this decrease the ammount I would possibly get if I were to wait a little longer???

thanks psychonaut dudes....

:smirk:

yes, wait a little longer .taking it out of the incubator too soon will only slow colonization, and you end up waiting longer for pins .
just a couple more days, find something else to keep your mind occupied, like women .

Its ok to stick them in the fruiting chamber now and initiate pinning. Some teks actually recommend to initiate pinning right after casing. I usually let them incubate for 3 days (or until I see mycellium poking through in several spots) after I case. I then put them in the fruiting chamber and initiate pinning.

Couple of questions. How deep is your substrate?  How deep is your casing layer ? My aquaintance has never incubated a casing longer than 3 days. With many strains, he only incubates for one day to make sure the mycelium gathers some momentum, then puts it in a fruiting chamber. He than patch cases as necissary while in the fruiting chamber. The mycellium will find its way to the surface
