Hay or Timothy Hay

Is this hay or timothy hay? (few questions are a simple as that!)

I agree with dog, because dogs always run in packs.....
J/K it looks like straw which is sometimes marketed as "Hay" :wink:

looks like grass hay, which has straw in it .
it works fine for casing, but you should pick through it and not use the seed and grass leaves .
i usually discard the knuckles too .

You should really be looking for (wheat) STRAW... not HAY.

You can buy a huge bale of it for 5 bucks at a feed store!

would I have to PC it, if using it as spawn?
or would boiling it like normal hay be ok to kill endospores?

well, all I can get in a petshop (if thats what you mean??) is timothy hay. I got this from a farmer, and Id like to know if I have to PC it , or can simply boil it.
Or, maybe you could tell me where I might find a feedstore, in a europeen city.

You should pasteurize it.

u don't pc it nor do u boil it.
U should pasteurize it.

A pet store really isn't a feed and seed store.
U need to find somewhere that sells live stock supplys.

I'm pretty sure they have farm animals in Europe u might have to find a small town shop outside ur city.

We do , but usually only the farmers take care of thoughs , and they have food. We don?t feed our food here usually. :wink:

Anyway, if you say I can pasteurize it , without having to PC it , then Im fine anyway.

Sorry for bumping this ?thread although its already answered, but are you sure just pasteurizing the stuff is ok? Im a bit afraid of the grassy stuff containing endospores, anyone got an idea on that?

it's a pain in the ass i know, but the hollow stems are the part you want .
if you sterilize it, you kill the beneficial enzymes in the straw .
i think that straw from grass hay might be better, then wheat or barley straw . but you will have to make your own decision whether it is worth the trouble to clean it .
