Yeah dude in theory there is 7 chakras. and more outside the body. Some in the earth some above the crown.
Each chakra represents consciousness, and psychic as well is physical attributes. Like lets say the first CHakra is the earth chakra and represents being strong, rooted, grounded, and it asoociates with everything physical in the body, such as teh bone marrow, power, strength, raw blood. The higher you get things get more mystical. Water chakra represents sex and creativity, Fire Chakra has to do with fire attributes, think flame, burning of the ego, forward moving triangle, Wind Chakra is compassion, and the Void chakras and higher, more bliss and refines states. One the chakras are all awakened it is said Kundalini opens and pierces the chakra connecting to the true nature of ourself, or the seed from where our conciouness is birthed from.
Hope this helps.

I had a pretty profound solax plexus chakra experience early this year.
This chakra stuff is for real but I don't think it is essential. Like Dolano said, you can jump all the chakras in an instant.
How? I dunno.
I don't think the buddha was working on his chakra system when he became enlightened...

I was working on my colon chakra earlier today. Surprisingly enough, you really don't need ex-lax for those long lost dog treats, only an electrical surge from your brown eye and the words "I summon thou from the depths of hell, present thyself annually"
It works magic.

In Hindu Tantra there are 7. Vajrayana Buddhism, particularly as explicated by Lama Anagarika Govinda in Foundations of Tibetan Mysticism, speaks of 5 - the two head centers Ajna and Sahasrara are combined into a Brain Center, and the Muladhara and Svadhisthana are combined into a Root Center (an anal-Genital center, corresponding to the psychic dynamics of Freudian Thanatos-Eros motives). However, in Vajrayana Buddhist Yoga, the chakras exist in different levels. The natural, unregenerated chakras correspond to the descriptions in Hindu Yoga. Following the 'Path of Ascent' of The Inner Fire (Tummo, which corresponds to the Hindu Kundalini-Shakti but with a different conceptual value), the chakras change in experiential value and meaning. Lastly, after the energies evolved from the Root Center reach the Brain Center (OM), they follow the 'path of Descent,' transmuting the upper 3 centers (Brain, Throat, Heart) into the vehicles of Enlightened Body, Speech, & Mind (OM-AH-HUM). The Heart Center is no longer merely the astral Anahata Chakra, but becomes the Vajra Body (Diamond Body, with each 'facet' symbolizing a Buddha Wisdom energy). The Diamond Body would be equivalent to the causal body's Hridayam (Heart Cave), as in Sri Ramana Maharshi's Advaita or Non-Dualist view.
So, your question recognizes the chakras as a static reality, when they are really the nodal points representing different fluidic transformations. Buddhist Yoga combines the chakras of Hindu Tantra with the Circulation of the Chi in Chinese Taoist Yoga - an ideal combination. Taoist Yoga (see Charles Luk's work) also has 'centers,' but the movement aspect is emphasized, just as Chinese Tai Chi emphasizes movement while the asana stage of Indian Yoga emphasizes static positions.
The Hopi Indians of North America have 4 centers in their system - Navel, Heart, Throat and Head. The Qabala's 10 sephiroth can be directly correlated to the 7 Hindu chakras (see Will Parfitt's The Elements of Qabalah). Georg Gurdjieff also recognizes 4 centers. Georg Gurdjieff's Sufi-based system has 3 major centers (like Plato, btw), but subdivides the Moving Center into 3 aspects: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centers_(Fourth_Way).

First we have to know what a CHakra is.
Chakra stands for wheel or vortex.
Everything theoretically is a Chakra cause everything down to the very Atom has some kind of spinnining velocity.
But besides the physical and scientific parts of it, mystics found that the consciousness fabric of reality spins at the core of it.
The reason why we have our problems, Karma or not consciousness liberated because there is a malfunction to this spin. When the meditation process begins one will go deeper and learn how to spin the conciousness back into frequency. Deep meditation will reveil that life isnt as solid as we thought it to be.

Well, as far back as 1983, I wrote a dissertation for my Ph.D. a correspondence between the phenomenology of chakras, and several Western psychologist's theories of human motivation. It was entitled 'A Phenomenological Adaptation of the Tibetan Buddhist Doctrine of Psychic Centers to a Metatheoretical Hierarchy of Human Motivation.' I wanted a six word title, but dissertations are supposed to be ostentatiously lengthy. So, I am something of a scholar in this area. I had been in written communication with Lama Govinda over the matter, and my experience with Yoga philosophy goes back to 1973. So, thanks for the acknowledgement!
