Hmm which container to use

OK heres the Deal...i got a couple brf cakes 99 percent done... i want to use a few to innoculate some pasteurized straw. no problem i know how to do that... but now i cant decide what type of container to use. Either a couple of flimsy aluminum cake pans with flat bottoms, or a plastic container with a raised center and sunken edges around the sides... kinda like a low island and a mote surrounding it.. the "mote" isn't very deep (maybe .5 in) but i think that may be what causing some people to get shrooms only on the side...??? which one do you think that i should use??

depth = bigger fruits, irregular sizes/shapes do not really effect a mycellial network.

I'd go with the plastic being it will hold up better. As said b4 the deeper the better

Do you think that the "motes" around the edge could cause heavy growth around the sides and weak growth in the center. seeing as the water might drain into them from the substrate??

nope. once you've got your straw moistened to the correct level the water should stay in place unless you don't let the straw drain long enough. Or over mist. In which case getting them to grow would be a problem over having a "fairy ring". Paint the outside of your container ,if its clear or a light color, w/ black marine enamel (boat paint), exterior house paint, or wrap around w/ whatever you have handy. That will keep them from growing between the mycellium block/container and help prevent ring around the collar. You could put some MOISTENED, STERILIZED vermiculite in that moat to level it out if you're ultra paranoid.
