Genetic Engineering
    #1324445 - 02/21/03 10:52 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

So if they can make a tobacco leaf glow in the dark, why has no one thought of splicing the "THC gene" or maybe the "cocaine gene" into common lawn grass? they could make dandelions that ooze heroin?

or like they did with insulin, they could splice the psilocybin-producing gene sequence into bacteria, and raise them in huge bioreactors...

i do think the DEA would be pretty fucked.

That would be cool... but until gene reading (?) technology becomes affordable for the home grower, I don't see any mainstream geneticists bothering to pull DEA permits to delve into such research.

I'd put the THC gene in roses... so they smell real nice while they're alive, and when they shrivel up... cremate 'em!

Mushmaster, the kind of genetic engineering you are talking about is the only kind of genetic engineering I approve of. I think it would be so sad if people used genetic technology simply to feed people (yeah right) and make money. Mad science is the science of the future.

My two genetic engineering dreams:

1) A box hooked up to a laptop. You order eggs from the GE company, and then you fertilize them with half of the genetic code which you make using a simple drag-and drop interface. Add arm here, extra toe, claws, venomous spit etc.

2) Fast-growing trees designed to grow huts at their base with tentacles hanging down inside the hut oozing out honey and other nutritious foods. Also as they got older they would grow tree-forts. this would replace the need for housing, except you'd have to fight with bears for your home.
