Oh noes music is progressing past what i previously thought it should be!! Its dyingggggg!!
Boo fucking hoo. now go cry about it while listening to indie rock on vinyl you ball-hugging jeans wearing fagget.
WTF are you going on about?
Being able to play music with other people makes you a good musician. I've met tons of people who can turn the switches on the drum machine and play 128th note runs along side it, but still can't play with anybody.
I experiment with music everyday. I make new stuff with new people. Do you? Or is this "fuck bands" attitude all about the fact that you can't get over yourself enough to work with other people?

pretty sure he is talking about the fact that band members can be replaced with pre-recorded music

dude i have no problems with bands. I work with my friends (jazz fusion type band) in both ableton and with a moog litte phatty just strictly for fun.
I said " fuck a band" to encourage the OP to try and compose his own live performances solo. He doesnt need to be discouraged by a lack of people around. I think with technology now it is possible to work beyond the limitations of not having an active band behind you.
In fact he doesnt have to cut out working with others entirely. That's the beauty of ableton. He can have someone with real instruments input audio while composing live. Heck he can even work together with other artists via forums and have collaborations with people across the country. One composes a bass rif, Someone composes a beat ect and save it to WAV.
BY no means am i dissing people who play "real" instruments and compose in traditional methods. I am just giving the OP to the idea that there are new possibilities he can explore.
the whole bit about sampled drums vs real is an opinion. I think a live drummer can add or detract from a performance depending on what type of music.

not pre-recorded music, but audio tracks with the potential to replace his bass, synth, drums ect. They dont even have to be necessarily prerecorded. Ableton gives you the ability to add those on the fly.

i like music like jazz, were people come together to express their personalities. the computerized band seems like it probably has no soul. your digitized samples might sound great but they aren't human.

I completely agree. 4 musicians are always greater than 1. Play with actual people.

LOL
If i get a note from a person hitting a string, or a machine processing a sample and it sounds the same what is the big deal? As long as it sounds good thats all that matters to me.
There are plenty of electronic music producers with an organic feel to their music. Take for instance Shpongle (massive amounts of sampling) thievery corp, Massive Attack, pretty lights ect. Do you think all those artists are lacking in "soul" in their music because they use software sequencers?
That being said i think there is a lot of merit in the fact that the same three basic instruments can create a billion variations in sound. But Im not all bonered for people who are playing a real instrument, vs people who are playing a sample. I only care about the end result : how the music sounds, and makes me feel. If its good its good.

I'm not dissing using technology so you can sound better. But I'm dissing using technology to replace your lack of playing ability or musical knowledge.
OP is encouraged to play music period. Being a singer songwriter, or composer takes skill, technology is only supposed to enable a composer to realize his ideas faster, or implement new ideas, not replace the creative process.

Basically if you don't read music or play an Instrument proficiently at the age of 18. You aren't going to be a musician. Try something else. No amount of technology can counter act sucking. Not even Antares

right on. Ive seen an 18 year old learn the basics of synthesis, sequencing, automation, effects, and mastering with little previous music experience, save for trumpet in 6th grade band. lol
oh and Antares sucks. Auto-tune is very limited compared to melodyne and cubase's package pitch correction plug-in. It's all that company has really.
Now Native Instruments, Camel Audio, and Rob Papen... those people make some kick ass audio software.

there is a difference between a guitar player and a guitar holder. learning all the chords doesnt make you a musician any more than learning the alphabet makes you an english major.
