Questions about police using GPS trackers

I keep my vehicle in the garage, so I am not concerned with LE being able to place a gps tracker on my vehicle while it's at home. What concerns me is when I have to leave the house for necessities such as groceries. It would be entirely too easy to tail me to the store or wherever, and place one on the vehicle while I'm a safe distance away inside the store.
So my question is, what do these GPS trackers typically look like, where are they typically placed on vehicles, and how easy are they to detect? I'd like to do a thorough inspection of my vehicle but I am no mechanic so I don't know what looks normal and what looks out of place. Does one single company sell these trackers to LE, or are there a multitude of models used? Anyone have good info on this topic?

Probably a black box that attaches to the underside with a magnet.
A good way to look for them would be to use a mirror similar to the curved mirrors used to inspect the undersides of cars at border crossings.

they have jammers for them that plug into your cig lighter for around 50$
at spy stores they sell things that detect bugs im sure they have something for a gps tracker
they are pretty small now and easily concealed so i would look for a electronic scanner and use the jammer for when you really dont want to be followed

..a spy store? lol..not making fun but that's kind of crazy. Thanks for the tip on the jammer, I'll look into that further through online resources.

well its not actually for "spy's" but for Private investigators and things of that nature
and you can get a gps tracker for like 100$ i saw a while back i guess parents use them to track their kids down or jealous boyfriends
they could also be used when your hiking in case you get lost or fall off a Cliff no distress beacon but better than nothing the distress beacons they sell start at 400$

There are lots of them, most big cities have one. Google for it. I have always wanted to visit one.
There are plenty of online ones too.
