Ugghhhh. Friend is so frustrated, straw not...
    #1322861 - 02/20/03 06:01 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

My friend is really frustrated, he had a straw casing, cased like an inch deep by stupidity. then he scraped off the excess 4 days ago, but the mycelium is just not invading the casing layer. Oddly, they dont stink and dont seem to be contaminated, he says, so what gives? Thanks,

First of all, youre not supposed to touch your casings or your substrate.
Secondly, 1'' depth is not good enough.
Thirdly, you have not provided us with enough information. What did you inoculate with, how did you inoculate, how were your preparation procedures?

There are many factors you need to tell us. I can't remember who this is quoted from but what you're asking us to do is comparable to going to a doctor and saying "i'm sick." but not saying how you got sick or what your symptoms are.

Try again!

Good luck in the future,
daba

I think he meant the casing layer was an inch deep. not the substrate, which is way too much more than likely. How deep is the subsrtate? what kind of spawn was used? What strain ? straw is tougher to colonize than some substrates. let us know

Was the straw fully colonized before you cased it?

What kind of casing material did you use?

How many days did you let the casing layer colonize?

What is the depth of the straw?

Yeah sorry that was really vague, wont do that again
1. Yes it was fully colonized my friend says, but yet it was not a white mass with no visible straw.
2.Verm. for casing (never again).
3.A good week and a half to colonize casing layer
4. Substrate depth about 2 inches after compressing (too shallow?)
5. Spawned with BRF
6. the person fucked up and gave 1 inch casing, then scraped off excess, is now no more than 1/4 inch
7.Now the casing is back in the dark waiting to colonize casing layer
