i guess that a little wraping would increase some sort of temp but i am not sure that its going to be 4 deg. I know that i had a prob a in the back of the fridge i went up 10 deg. with a small heater i was able to go up like 15 deg.

Good luck!

This guy I know used an aluminized non-stretch polyester emergency blanket, and it brought the temp. up quite a bit. They're only like $5 or so.

I'm a bit confused. What are you dealing with a incubation or fruiting chamber?

In any case if the chamber isn't already heated then adding blankets isn't going to do anything. Blankets will only insulate it. There would need to be a source of heat inside the insulation for the temp to rise. The mycelium do generate a bit of heat but nothing that is going to raise the temp 4 degees.

The reason a person feels warm inside when wrapped with a blanket is they are losing less heat to the environment. The person is the heater. Humans and all warm blooded animals are walking exothermic biochemical reactors.

I'm nobody.

Raise thermostat for the house up . Or if you have a cabinet above an oven , turn oven on for short periods of time and try to get a fairly steady incubation temp .

Wrap a 20 W lightbulb in foil and suspend it .

or a good blanket over an existing incubator with a heater will help

without a blanket , my incubator only goes to 70, with one, i easily keep it at 85.

see....i dont have an incubator. the room temperature is at around 70 degrees.....it dont really want to raise the thermostat (costs too much). so right now, the jars are sitting in a closet with multipul blankets wraped around them. im trying to get the jars around 78-80 degrees (so mycelium colonizes faster)....i liked the space blanket idea....thanks!!!! any other ideas?

I have had NO problems with heating pads for YEARS. Not in the hobby, but similar use as in reptiles (Hots at that;) ) I have found this to be cheaper than a heat rock and provide steady results if monitored correctly. If you still don't like the heating pad idea, try a "heat rock". Just my 2 cents

here's an idea, i haven,t tested it though . use a coleman cooler or a sturdy box, line the bottom with aluminum foil, through in a string of mimi xmass lights, cover that with more foil, then you need a grate of some kind to support the jars and keep them from crushing the lights .
you,ll notice that the red and amber lights put off the most heat, but not enough to start a fire .

you'd be covering the lights "with more foil" not giving light and raising the temp not giving it a drop. But the issue of dry heat would cause me to choose a submersable fish tank heater. Gank one if you have to. Its for a good cause. Course that can get ya in trouble before you get under way.

If you can do it without creating a fire hazard, put a light in the closet and close the door. Experiment with different wattages to get desired temp increase. Put jars in a cardboard box if your afraid of invitro pinning.

A rule of thumb for the cost of raising the thermostat: every deg equals 1%. So if you raised the temp on thermostat 5 deg for a month, you looking at bill 5% higher than normal.
