Any anime fans in here?    try and keep your list small plz.

Heres a few shows I am currently following or waiting for the coming season..

-Strike Witches
-Kämpfer

And a few past shows/movies off top of my head I have viewed that  enjoyed..

-Cowboy Bebop (episodes multiple times, and the movie was ok too).
-Inuyasha
-Kare Kano
-Howls moving castle
-Trigun
-Spirited Away
-Princess Mononoke
-Akira
-Blood the last vampire

I am waiting for the  Cowboy Bebop and  Akira live movie adaptations to come to theaters.

Anyone make me a recommendation for an anime off the above list please?

Throw out a few of yours.

I love watching anime I am actually learning Japanese right now too so it helps with my studying too ;P

My favorite shows are -

Gurren Laggan (this show is absolutely amazing - funny show about giant robots kicking ass and big boobs)
Shigurui Death Frenzy (Dark mature samurai anime)
Cowboy Bebop / Samurai Champloo
Death Note
I will admit I am a sucker for Naruto Shippuden as well as BLeach
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

I love watching a great anime during a trip or during the comedown!

I love anime too. Some of my favorites include:

Death Note
Ghost in the Shell
Afro Samurai
Samurai Champloo
Akira
Dead Leaves
Paprika

I also like all of Hayao Miyazaki's films. I'm going to watch My Neighbor Totoro tonight and I just recently watched Ponyo. If you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend that you do. I'm going to watch it again on my next trip. :mushroom2:

In no particular order, the best IMHO:

Death Note
Code Geass
Ergo Proxy
Lain
Boogiepop Phantom
Noein
Kino No Tabi
Elfen Lied
Gantz
Haruhi Suzumiya
Rebuild Of Evangelion (and Evangelion off course)
Soul Eater

Now watching:

To Ara Majutsu No Index (and waiting for the 2nd series)
Durarara
High School Of The Dead
Sengoku Basara
Isekai No Seikishi Monogatari

I am by no means an anime expert or enthusiast but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed Inuyasha, Bleach, FMA, and Death Note

No one has mentioned outlaw star. Loved that anime back in the day. I actually named one of my cats after one of the characters from Outlaw Star!

Ranma 1/2
Furi Kuri (FLCL)
Tsubasa Chronicles
Ghost in the Shell

(Skipped the ones people already mentioned)

Can anyone recommend a good series for someone who just finished DeathNote and Code Geass? Looking for something in the same vein, something comparably epic. (I have seen Evangelion.)

Preferably something that can be found in eng dub easily enough... yeah, I know, I'm a lazy bastard... I just can't be troubled to read and watch at the same time.

I think that death note (s1, s2 sucks) and code geas are the only two anime in that vein, that in some way resemble each other... maybe watch some of the recent gundam series? I never watched it, but from the synopsis i've read seems to me that it has to some degree political twists similar to Code Geass.. Also i have read that they are making a 3rd season of Code Geass, so i suppose we'll have to wait

My favorite aspects of Geass and DeathNote were the interpersonal and intrapersonal struggles relating to moral decision making. The political aspects of it (while necessary to further the story) are less interesting to me.

I agree that Deathnote season 1 was superior. I can't believe they killed off L... should have kept him going to the end.

No, I am more fascinated with the character development and interaction and the resulting conflicts from differing views of morality.

As much as I liked Geass, I found Deathnote more engaging because they chose to keep the focus more on the "drama" of the subtle interaction and less on the "action" of the battles and war.

I CAN!!

Gurren Lagann, you will love it

You will also love Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (Epic Epic Epic and great philosophical discussions, so great to watch when tripping)

I also suggest watching Bleach or Naruto if you like the "dark herO" aspect of code geass.

Try Shigurui Death Frenzy for a really serious, mature, graphic samurai anime.

Also Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo as have been mentioned by people are GREAT ones to watch next as well.

Hey-

I've seen Full Metal Alchemist, but not the brotherhood series. THe original series is great... I tried to watch Brotherhood but found it unappealing because it parallels or 'multi-dimensions' the original plot instead of being a true sequel of sorts. I'm sure someone who saw Brotherhood first might not be bothered by that, but it felt like a rehash of the original FMA and therefore seemed uninspired and basically just "old material".

I do like the dark hero aspect of Geass (and DeathNote) but generally just as much enjoy the implementation of a counter-hero in each situation so that one cannot necessarily say the dark character IS the hero with any certainty throughout the series.

I like the moral ambiguity and how it helps me explore territories of my own morality that are difficult to explore without getting myself into some serious shit in real life. So I explore those aspects "psychonautically" while watching anime that does a good job of pitting different moral stances against each other without making it obvious who "will win" and/or who "was right" all along. I like how animes tend to make you realize that no one is right, everyone is confused, and everyone is doing what they THINK is right... heh. That's a great life lesson.

Thanks for your other recommendations--I'll check them out.

Evangelion was the first series that hooked me, and I literally had some sort of ego melt down with Shinji at the end of the movie. I really didn't (and still don't) expect any anime to ever beat that experience...

Actually the first FMA was the one that diverged from the REAL storyline. They cought up to the comic book and instead of making filler and following the real story they made up their own and extended it like 200 episodes.

Brotherhood was made after the manga completed so it follows the real storyline to a T with NO filler. Its the whole reason that Brotherhood was made, because fans enjoyed the original manga story so much more than the anime that diverged from it.

All the other ones i mentioned are great yeaa..

if you into mature stuff only check out...

RahXephon
Shigurui
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo

maybe Gurren Lagann...

If anyone has any reccomendations for me from my favorites id love to hear them!

Cant believe I never hear of Serial Experiments Lain before either, Ive GOTTA check that one out!

Hmm... that makes sense... it's just that I've literally watched every episode of the original series, so it's kind of embedded in my head as the 'Original' now just because I watched it first, and extensively at that.

I'll check out Brotherhood someday when the first series has had time to fade from my memory.

\FMA brotherhood is a little slow at the start, but starting somewhere before the middle point it gets so epic its unbelievable.

i think it has one of the top 4 or 3 most epic anime endings I have ever seen to anime series or movie.

As said before if you liike death note, watch Code geass for sure!

Anime is one of my top 5 favorite subs.

Full Metal will always be my favorite for my love of the characters and it's from those back in the day days.  The way that the movie ended broke my virtual heart.

My current favorite is Ergo Proxy. I am justy getting into it and it may be one of the best I have seen.

I can't wait to see how it developes.  I have watched the first disk and am already hooked, waiting for the second one in the mail.  (c'mon netflix)

You can actually watch the first episode here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN511egtpvA

You have to pay attention to catch the story line but it is definitely worth watching.

Also Basilisk:

The english dub is pretty great as well!

HHHHAAAAA!!!!! FMA, Death Note.. yeah yeah..

but it seems like you guys have missed

MIND GAME!

a very experimental and psychedelic movie by a great author, Masaaki Yuasa, who I am also watching a short series of, 13 epsidoes, Kemonozume. I love it. Very fresh and weird style.

no need to say you gotta watch it asap!

FLCL (furiKuri) also is a MUST SEE... crazy non-sense story and kickass animation.
